I have a problem with my graphics setting:
When I use the Configuration menu I set my graphics to High, but once I launch the game the graphics setting is set at Low and it's greyed out and I can't switch it.

Is there a way to fix this? I know my pc can handle a higher setting than Low.

thanks in advance

The only matching datum to what you recalled is not that it is Pixel Shader 3, but 3-"c".  ATI's X000 generation, from the X700 through X850, had Dx9.0"b", which omits one final part of SM 3, and the textures for those are limited to LOW.

I still have a PC with such a card, and I think I will add a second GB of RAM to it to se what it works like with DA:O.

well I found the answer. here's an FYI for anybody having the same issue:

"Note that if your graphics card does not support the Shader Model 3

model, all graphic detail levels other than "Low" will be

unavailable."

that was in the documentation. So I guess you do need a video card with shader model 3. ah well

Good to know. At least they didn't screw everyone with SM2 cards over and keep them from playing at all like a lot of companies are doing now. Demigod was the first game I encountered with such stupidity. The beta supported SM2 but the release did not. Other games include Batman: Arkham Asylum, GTA IV, Assassin's Creed I & II, Overlord 2, LotR: Conquest, Ghost Busters, and a few others are the big titles released recently that DO NOT support anything below SM3. The fact that this game allows people to play without it and just do without the minor graphics perks is what these other games should have done in the first place. Why limit your customer base to those with newer systems if you don't have to? The wider you reach the game's support for older hardware the more copies you sell. Just makes good business sense to me. The only reason I can think a company would do otherwise is if they have some deal worked out with the hardware companies (ATI and/or nVidia in this case) that they won't support older cards to try and boost hardware sales. Some people will go out and buy a new card just to play 1 game. In times such as these, I have better things to spend my money on than new hardware. In my case, buying a worthwhile card means upgrading my motherboard to one with PCI Express, which then means an updated processor and power supply. I don't want to spend $60 on an AGP card with SM3 if I'm just going to end up having to update everything else later anyway. Most games I want to play on PC run just fine on the setup I have and I see no need to upgrade yet. This game runs fine even if I have to sacrifice a few minor cosmetic touches to enjoy such a great game. I'll just play Assassin's Creed II and all the other games I want to play that WON'T run on my PC on XBox 360 instead.

Sorry.  I won't read any wall to wall text blob.  Any such silly-looking thing, without paragraph breaks, is WRONG.

SM2 is Dx9.0"a", such as what the Radeon 9500 through 9800 had.  Dx9.0"b" is the base level of SM3, which has another notch upward in complexity.  The X1050 through X600 were all merely Radeon 9600s, and therefor SM2.

The X700 through X850 all have the base SM3 level.  Drivers for them are more of a problem than anything else, however.  I use Omegas.
