Favorite: Zaeed. He's actually quite interesting if you listen to his stories. Biggest downside is that there is no dialouge wheel. Also I like his backstory, he founded the freaking blue suns man, and survived a gunshot to the face, Voice acting is awesome, robin sachs is great. I bring him everywhere, he's great in combat. Also he's not as much of a bastard as everyone seems to think he is, if you bring him everywhere to come you learn this with some of the things he says on missions, like in jacks loyalty mission, he mentions that he may have done some bad things but the idea that kids being experimented on really bothered him.

Least Favorite: Miranda, such a boring self important character, and doesn't do much for me in combat either.

Storywise:

Tali's probably my favorite, but I love, Mordin, Garrus, Grunt, Legion, Miranda and Samara.

Thane is okay, but not terribly interesting.  I would rather get Jack therapy than spend a lot of time with her.

Jacob is about as interesting as as watching grass grow.  The only time I find him even remotely interesting is if you take the renegade option on his loyalty mission, and he gives his dad the pistol, with the statement "it's not for them."

I REALLY wish I could kill Zaeed.  A lot.  The only time I take him out is for his loyalty mission, and then it's just for the flamethrower and upgrade you get while doing the play through.  Otherwise, I'd just never recruit him.  I might feel differently if the whole of the recruitment mission didn't involve hitting the space bar, then clicking the mouse twice, or even if you could actually talk to him, but even his loyalty mission feels a little tacked on, and he's a complete jerk the whole time.  The first time I got to the end of the mission, I got really angry that I didn't have the option of leaving his sorry butt on that mud hole of a planet, and letting the workers have fun with knives and scissors.

He's actually not that bad of a guy though. Infact the reason Vido and Him had disagreements about the bluesuns in the first place is because Vido wanted Batarians and Zaeed didn't want them because he considered them to be heartless slavers and terrorists.

Favorite:
1. Tali: She has been my favorite female character since the first Mass Effect and remains my first choice as part of my squad. Also her Combat Drone helped me out of some tough situations on insanity.
2. Thane: A balance for long and mid-range combat, also has some biotic abilities to tip the fight in my favor.
3. Legion: Excellent for long rage fights and has both a Combat Drone and an extra shielding for intense battles.
Least favorite:
1. Jack: She just feels unbalance for my taste. Her shockwave is powerful but her weapon layout is the same as Tali and I much rather have a Combat Drone.

Favorites: Tali's my gal, Garrus is my pal.

Least liked: Miranda, for several reasons...

Shepard: Are you two going to have a problem following my orders?

Jacob: Illusive Man says you're in charge, then you're in charge. We didn't bring you back to second guess you.

Shepard: Okay, our first priority is to look for survivors...

Miranda: That's not such a good idea, Commander...

Shepard: *****, what did I just say?

I have no idea how you could say his loyalty mission is tacked on. It's very well developed with two TOTALLY different endings, and both paths give you different items. Also the choice to save the people or make him loyal is one of the few choices in this game that isn't easy to make as a paragon. Because you want everyone loyal, and you also want to save the people. In my first paragon run I didn't have enough paragon points to convince him after taking the paragon rout and I didn't get him loyal. I think this is one of the best loyalty missions.

Also inferno grenade rocks.

Personally I think Tali is really boring. I don't know what the fuss is all about. She is just the token quarian. I don't even know why she gets so much respect from her Flotilla. She is a young girl she doesn't even have her own ship. She is just a king-hearted quarian engineer nothing interesting going on with her.

Well I don't like tali much either but she gets respect from her flotilla because she helped defeat one of the greatest galactic threats. :P

 Faves:

Garrus:  Hands down, that's my dude.  He gets anything done.  "Garrus go make sure that Saren's dead.  Garrus get out the mako and kill that collossus so i can get more xp!  Garrus I feel like holding the line this time so go kill that reaper all by yourself."   Also, he's always been a good sniper and is a good balance of tech and combat.

Tali:  Pure nostalgia's sake.  I fell in love with the ME1 characters so anyone who has been there since the beginning is an automatic favorite.

Thane:  Of the new kids he's number one.  I like the true professionalism he has with being an assassin.  And the fact that he prayed for himself did it for me.

Least Faves:

Zaeed:  I just don't like him.  There's really no explanation for it, if i could kill him myself i would.

Samara:  She's too self righteous  and bland.  Great biotics for combat but I still don't like her.

Side Note:  Miranda's a toss up.  I hate it when she says she has perfect looks when really she ain't all that..

Thane - They sure did a good job making a sexy alien boy. He's yum. PLEASE bring him back for ME3!!!
Jack  - The **** kicks ass. Love her tattoos and her shaved head, love her back story,
                                   she's awesome.
                     Jacob - HOT!!! E'nuff said.
Garrus - Love him from ME1, love  him in ME2.
Mordin - Gilbert and Sullivan - E'nuff said.

Least Favorites - Grunt, simply because I enjoyed Wrex more. That's who I compared him too. Wrex just kicked
ass.   Grunt seemed like a pale comparison. Even so, I still think Steve Blum is one of
the most talented  voice actors ever.
Miranda, she was ok but I never felt compelled to have her in my group.
Samara - liked the character but still, never had her in my group.
Zaeed - I liked him the least, Probably because I could never interact with him
on Normandy.   Clicking on objects to get him to say something just
wasn't  as interesting as really interacting with him. That was a big draw back for me.

All that said, I really liked all the characters but if I had to choose best versus least, this is how it'd end up.

FAVORITES

Miranda - She's nice to look at, and has the best group of skills that help "you" out.

Mordin - he is just bad ass in terms of his character as well as his skills plus he's a salarian, the one race I wanted to see in this game

LEAST FAVORITE

Jacob - I hate his personality... plus listening to him on his loyalty quest was brutal... such a whiny little female dog. skills suck except the ammo if upgraded to squad but that's what grunt is for.

Jack - Liked her at first, but her whole "cerberus was mean to me and woe is me" mentallity got annoying after awhile... like cmon get over it. Like her skills though but not enough to like her as a whole.

Least favorite would be Jacob. He's marginally useful if you have warp on your character or a squad mate, but once you get his loyalty and unlock barrier, he is useless. You can't turn off defensive powers and he spams that thing like there's no tomorrow. Well, he can sit in his armory and toss up barriers whenever Tali glares at him.

For favorite, I would say Morinth then Samara.  Both are very powerful and useful in most situations, and I think their loyalty powers are among the best in the game.  I'm also a sucker for asari, and I like their personality/backstory.

Favorite? Going purely by the character themselves, I'd say Tali, Legion, Thane, Samara and Mordin are pretty high up there for me. I don't really dislike anyone however, pretty much every character has at least one redeeming quality.

Grunt- Badass, awesome design also

Favorites:

- Mordin. Hilarious, surprisingly useful in combat if used right.
- Miranda. Good character, and extremely useful in combat. If you don't know who to bring, pick Miranda. She's always good.
- Samara. Good character, and good biotic support. Carries an assault rifle, and Reave and Pull are good squaddie Powers.
- Zaeed. I like the badass "seen-it-all" gruffness. And he kicks ass on the battlefield too.

Dislikes:

- Tali. Fanservice not directed at me, so not interested, and useless in 90% of missions. Legion is much better as the "anti-synthetic" squaddie. So is Miranda, and even Garrus and Zaeed with his disruptor ammo.
- Jack. I kinda sorta like the character, but she is nowhere near the powerhouse depicted in cutscenes.
- Jacob. I've grown ambivalent about his personality, and he is not the most useful character on the battlefield.
- Thane. Loathe his character, though he is a useful squaddie in combat, though very different from what he's depicted in his big cutscene...

1) Most favourite has to be Garrus. I have to agree with Joker he has a pole up his ass, but he's very determined and watching him kick the crap out of that jerk Harkin put a smile on my face. Combat wise, he's tough, good with both assault rifles and sniper rifles. Concussive shot is useful against all protections, overload is great against shields and synthetics and tungsten/AP ammo will ruin a Scion or Krogan's day.

2)Zaeed. A selfish amoral jerk, but one with plenty of character. He's got more or less the same abilities as Garrus but with a different twist.

3)Tali. She's not to everyone's taste but I found her the most interesting character in both ME games. Her background, while essentially a cross between Battlestar Galactica and a Gypsie cliche, did add a level of depth and diversity to the story. Her combat abilities are limited but she is an absolute beast when facing synthetics.

4) Mordin. A very colourful character with a very colourful past. It's hard not to like Mordin for his entertainment value. His combat abilities are pretty good, although not in the same league as Miranda, Garrus and Zaeed.

Least favourites...

1) Jack. She's a well constructed character with plenty of depth. She's brutal, violent and selfish... sort of like a Krogan... but without the hump. Her combat abilities are very poor. Warp ammo gives her some flexibility but on hardcore and insanity her biotics and weapon abilities are far too weak.

2) Morinth. Ugh, a sociopath who gets off on mind ****ing people to death. Dominate is useful but is no way an alternative to Samara's Reave.

Personality:

Faves: Garrus, Zaeed and Thane. They remind of of guys I used to work and train with.

Less: Mordin. Reminds me too much of Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG1. Still good though.

Least: Jack. typical bogan ****. Thats trailer trash for you yanks, or chavs for you poms.

Combat:

A lot of folks seem to be dissing Jacob's combat ability. Yourself (Soldier/infiltrator) and legion providing covering fire with Widows, he can be quite lethal with the Eviscerator shotgun + barrier+ inferno ammo.

Although husk missions normally calls for Samara/Zaeed (area reave/grenade) & Thane (throw field). Even better when you also have area reave and throw field.

Least:

Jack. Warp ammo and Eviscerator does give her some lethality, doesnt beat Jacob with inferno ammo.

Grunt: Handy, but too much "I am Spartan/Beowulf!". I'm just thankful he doesnt strip down to a loincloth, or less. (dont blame me for the mental image, its your imagination that conjured it)

Fave line (for now):

Thane: "Be still Mouse. You can change your pants in a moment."

Favourite:

Tali
: I just think she's awesome, good, personality, great acting, etc. I also find her very helpful in combat, I also like the nostalgia. She also has the best loyalty mission IMO.

Garrus: Helpful in combat and he's just plain cool Image IPB and once again nostalgia.

I also like legion, Jack, Mordin and thane.

Least favourite:

Miranda
: She's helpful in combat sure, but I just can't stand her, "I'm perfect, boohoo", It annoys me that she never seems to die, even when disloyal!

Jacob: He's my bro, but he is pretty useless in combat IMO. I also didn't really enjoy his loyaty mission too much, though I have to admit the ending(s) were satisfying.

Like the whole cast, but to name a few:

Tali: Awesome character, good dialogue. Was my favorite char in ME1 and now in ME2. The first time I heard the "Go for the optics, Talika!" line (BG2 FTW!), I died because I laught so hard I couldn't shoot at the enemies. Great loyalty mission. In combat Tali is good or atleast decent.

Miranda: Most useful character in combat by far. Also nicely written character on the whole. And come on, Yvonne Strahovski as a brunette, what's not to like?

Garrus: Even better than he was in ME1. Deadly in combat, good dialogue.

Legion: Deadly in combat, really interesting character, too bad you can get him so late in the game.

Mordin: Best "crazy" scientist ever. Period.

And maybe Jack. On my current playthrough I'm gonna use Jack more. (Not that way you pervs)

The rest of the crew is good but nothing that stands out in any way. Execpt for Jakob in a bad way. The guy couldn't be more bland if he tried. I mean in ME1 Kaiden was some what bland and some what useless in combat, but compared to Jakob, Kaiden was a damned Rambo.

Favourites:
Garrus, he has history, his loyalty mission is awesome, and he has the true bromance of the series with Shep.
Tali, for the same reasons as Garrus.
Mordin, the man has serious singing skills, and who doesn't like the good doctor?
Grunt, didn't expect this but the guy came out of left field on me and into my heart.
Legion, but then I always love robots, and anxiously await the day when everything is fixed in the world when our glorious mechanical overlords take power.
Joker and EDI, need I explain?

Hated:
Zaeed, the guy steals 'cool' quotes in order to try and portray him as some cool badass but just emphasises his inability to match up to them and comes across more like Rico stealing all his school teacher's lines in Starship Troopers, he is cliched, incompetent, should be executed for his actions on his loyalty mission whether you are renegade or paragon, and the quality of the VA on his loyalty mission and the lines used are dire, really ruins the immersion.

Surprised at:
Jack, I was so worried when seeing the trailers as she looked like the stereotypical character type the media always make tattooed people out to be (which is ironic since some of the nicest people I know are into tattoos and piercings, but that doesn't fit in with the media's goal to victimise character types), but she actually proved to be a rather deep character and really enjoyed her loyalty mission.
