Miranda: It's hard for me to not put her at the top of the list. She has a pretty good story is an interesting character (if not the most interesting of the group), but she goes to the top of list because of her combat usefulness. She is with me 100% of the time in combat.
Samara: Loved her. L-o-v-e-d her. I found her to be one of the most interesting. Not necessarily a hero, not really a villain - very much the "lawful good" character. Also, loved the outfit.
Most Disliked
Jack: Yuck. The tats, the clothes, the attitude, the combat abilities all equate to yuck in my book. She has a few times where I thought she would make a breakthrough and catch my interest, but it was always immediately spoiled by her annnoying behavior. Also, she thinks she's so bad ass and yet is one of the weakest squad members I've dealt with. She alwasy seems to be dead in my Insanity playthroughs (not a problem I have with anyone else).
Garrus: I hate the guy. I've hated him since ME1. I find him to be bland an annoying with a touch of emo.

"Flammable! Or inflammable. Forget which. Doesn't matter." I LOVE that line. Mordin and Legion are my two favorite characters by far.Combat Interaction (Phrases)
Favorite: Tali and Mordin
Least Favorite: Grunt and Jack
Zaeed just seems to have such weak scripting and no dialogue trees outside his loyalty mission, and he's just not that interesting to boot. I realize he's a DLC character, but then again, so is Shale, and Shale is just a far richer character all around than Zaeed.
I have mixed feelings about Jack. To make another Dragon Age comparison, if I want a crazy **** who likes blowing things up around me, I'd rather have Morrigan. Although she is an interesting "What If" if you're a Firefly fan, as I kind of think that she's what River Tam would have become were it not for Simon.

All of the squadmates have some utility but others just havea more intersting personality. Tali and Mordin's world view is clearly defined and it makes them more interesting, especially how they deal with it being challenged. As oppsed to Jack, Legion and Samara who are unaffected by challenges to their world view. This especially makes Jack's personality flat, though she has some fun dialog, she is the ssame person going into the loyaty mission as comming out.
Miranda and Jacob are the same character they just have different daddy issues. Their view of the world is what suits the moment.

Miranda - She was my good all-around choice with Overload and Warp. If I didn't know what lay ahead, I knew she had an ability to handle it. Of course, after playing the game a few times, I do know what lies ahead, but that doesn't take away at her usefulness the first time through.
Legion - He has the abilities that I wish my character had: an engineer sniper. How did I ever think a Combat Drone paled in comparison to any other ability? Combat Drone for the win!
Least Useful
Jacob - His Pull just did not work with his (in)ability to tank. If I wanted biotic crowd control, I took Jack. If I wanted a tank, I took Grunt. Trying to combine the two into Jacob was a disaster. For me.
Tali - Only on my last playthrough did I finally get a good grasp on the benefits of an engineer. But I am a distance fighter, and Tali is all up in the enemy's face. So given the choice, I always took Legion.
Most fun to take regardless of Usefulness
Zaeed - He had some of the best comments for every mission. His Inferno Grenade made for good moments of panic.
Most Favorite
Garrus - He's like my fallback favorite, though. Mordin is hilarious. Grunt
always makes me happy. I like to listen to Zaeed. But Garrus was a
favorite in the first game and nothing in the second game diminished
that. He is that bridge bringing two games together.
Least Favorite
Jacob - It was a bad move trying to make him a romantic interest for a female
Shepard. I had far more interest in him as a comrade. But even then, everyone else had something more interesting to say. Overshadowed.

Miranda: Good all-around skills and a party-boosting passive. Plus, she's pretty nice to look at.
Samara: Reave is awesome and she can use ARs. Also not bad to look at...
Least Favorites:
Jack: Horrible skills, bad weapon choices, obnoxious and fugly. Sit on the bench and be quiet, please!
Jacob: He's good for Mordin's recruitment mission, but otherwise, his skills and weapon choices suck. He's a bit better with the Eviscerator, but still not very good at all.
If there's any situation where Jack and/or Jacob would be "useful", another teammate would invariably be better.
I also don't take any party members with ammo abilities if I have a squad ammo ability because of them always overwriting the squad ammo with whatever ammo they have, even if it is only level 1. For this reason, I usually save Garrus' loyalty mission until last.

1. Quarian noob who dies in 2 bites (Garrus + Thane = Win)
2. Tali Loyalty (Zaeed + Tali)
All other missions I just pick whoever I'm feeling.

Tali - Simply put, she's responsible for what is - to me - one of the most emotionally powerful moments in all of gaming. Kudos to Liz Sroka for delivering a terrific performance.
Grunt - Surprisingly energetic, with some of the funniest lines in the entire game.
Thane - Fantastic voice performance, along with what is probably the most intriguing backstory of all of the squadmates.
Least Favorites:
Jacob, Samara, and Zaeed. I love these three as well, but simply don't feel that they have quite as much depth to them as the other squadmates.

Miranda: This girl is great. Interesting storyline, incredibly useful skills, well voice acted and has teh b00beez. She's in my team for something like 60% of the total missions. The only thing I don't like about her is that she somehow ignores th vacuum of space using a small facemask a la Empire Strikes Back.
Garrus: The best friend character of my male shep. Solid, stable, easy going with a hint of true grit. And a big buncha useful skills. Synergises perfectly with a Vanguard.
Tali: The tech specialist with the shotty returns. Brilliant.
Annoyances
Jack: Until she actually gets trained up and calms down, she's a complete imbecile. The way she kept yapping about how hard she had things started to grind my gears. Build a bridge and get over it woman, Shep has actually been killed before. She gets a bit better once she puts her demons to bed and she functions well with my Vanguard, albeit like a pale reflection of his awesomeness.
Jacob: I don't actually mind his character and voice acting, those parts are pretty good. It's his skill set that hobbles him. He's like a bad tank with someone else's weapons load out. Once his pull field is trained and he's carrying an Eviscerator, he really does improve.... but still inferior to practically everyone else.

HATE: Can't stand Jacob! OMG I have no words to explain how much he annoys me. Zaeed is just a waste.

Mordin is just so straight forward and brilliant. Tali is the little sister. I never use Samara but in the suicide mission (Biotic field thing) she was awesome. Legion is nice, fun to bring him to the flotilla.
I dont know about Jack.
Jacob is just lame, The only time I liked Miranda was when seeing her with her sister, that was moving.
Grunt just fights, nothing deep there,
Zaeed is pretty boring.
And Joker is awesome!! no Mass Effect without him!

Zaed: From reading this thread I would have to say underrated. Going through his room and clicking on items to get a story gives him much greater depth than others back stories. Keeping his motives hidden until the after his loyaty missing begins adds a nice suprise. The voice acting here really helps. Even for utility he is great to have on missions. Team disruptor ammo is a great ability and the grenade special ability is a nice armor-be-gone move for dealing with husks.
I would counter by saying he was under-written. Why couldn't we converse with him AND ask him about the items in his room. Actually, why couldn't all the characters have had objects in their room to interact with whilst interacting with them as well? I just found that object interaction with Zaeed as being really lacking. He could have been a lot more. Yet, as he was, he seemed more like an after thought, hence the download after launch.

I didnt like Garrus in ME1, but in ME2 he changed my opinion of him big time.
I see theres a lot of hate for Jack, but i actually liked her. If u romance her as a Paragon, u get to see alittle bit deeper into her character.
Mordin, Thane, Miranda.....Mordin is really fun to talk to, so i liked him. Thane is a badass. And Miranda is sexy, alittle hard to like at first but u just need to warm her up a bit.
Characters i didnt really care too much for are.....Jacob is meh. Grunt was ok, better than Wrex though. Samara just didnt have anything interesting. And Zaeed was a jerk, so i didnt really care for him.
I cant really say much about Legion....hes a cool character, it just sucks u get him pretty much at the end.
Oh and i cant forget about Joker....Joker is the man! probably my second favorite character under Tali of course. Too bad they didnt have him as a romance option for the female Shepard, maybe for ME3 though *crosses fingers*

Who's your favorite/least favorite teammate?
Favortie:
Miranda - She's one of the most well rounded characters providing both biotic and tech powers as well a damage bonus.
Legion - He takes the best features of both Tali (tech powers) and Garis (weapon load out)... and Geth sheilding... sweet!
For me, both offer interesting storylines.
Least Favorite:
Jack - I just can't get past the **** attitude. I hate it! It's so cliche and over the top that I tend to ignor her entirely. First thing I did after her loyalty mission was put some clothes on her... uuugh... gross! Combat wise I was expecting awesome results... still waiting.
Wow, I thought I was going to have to type this out but you have said exactly what I was going to say here in your post. I couldn't have said it better, so my vote is quoted above. The only thing I wanted to add is I like Garrus's character too.

Tali: I just like that seemingly innocent girl behind the mask. The voice acting is the best in the game(s) I think.
Jack: What a **** .... but I like that. A bit unstable, but I like that too. I hope she evolves and joins ME3.
Mordin: He cracks me up. I love the way he talks, and his back-story is great.
Garrus: Bad-ass. I like his character and his personality.
Zaheed: I actually like him ... a bit of a bastard, but still with some morals.
Jacob: Bland, and a bit dull to my taste. Liked how he dealt with his father
Samara: Not my favorite, and I find her a bit up-tight.
Miranda: "Miss Cheerleader". Contrast to Jack. She sometimes got a bit on my nerves. Too "pretty".
Grunt: What's not to like about a huge hunchback that would rather crack your skull than listen to reason??
Legion: Wish I got him earlier. He seems like an extremely interesting character and hope to see him again in ME3.
Thane: A bit dull for my taste ... an emo assasin. Strange combo.
I just wish there was more time in the game to evolve relationships with the team mates .... some of them seem to end after 2 or 3 conversations.

Miranda: Overload and Warp in one person. Since you need only one of those two powers at a given time, she is very flexible. Same for the damage bonus.
Samara: Biotic combos in one person, plus assault rifle. Very well rounded.
Take both Miranda and Samara in your team, add squad ammo of your own, and you will kickass.
Worst one:
Jacob: Can add squad ammo, help to pull-setup a warp detonation. After the loyality mission his cooldown is used up almost all the time for barrier by the AI and he thus becomes almost useless.
In general:
I personally find soldier types of less use (Grunt, Zaeed, Garrus). IMO, concussive shot is inferior to any biotic user´s capabilities and their usefulness to the team seems to be only for providing squad ammo.
Pistol and/or shotgun users seem to be always inferior because of the bad range/slow fire rate of those weapons. I try to avoid those team members.

Tali: Yes, I'm a Talimancer. I hated the fact that I couldn't have a deeper relationship with her in the first game. She actually managed to stay just like I remember her, but still grow up at the same time. And her Loyalty mission was very interesting.
Mordin: I wasn't big on him at first, but then I started talking to him and found him somewhat intriguing. He stayed at that level until I did his Loyalty Mission, at which point he took a spot next to Tali. The look into his character as he ponders his work on the modified Genophage was phenomenal. His singing was pretty good, but his Loyalty Mission was a thing of genius.
Also, I have one character I dislike. I don't hate her per se, but she really irks me. Jack just rubs me completely wrong. I'd love to have a conversation option to b*tch slap her every time she says something stupid, but I'm afraid my arm would get tired from having to slap her every time she opens her mouth. The galaxy is full of stupid people, and she's one of the stupidest. Too bad I can't shoot her.
