I'm surprised no one mentioned Bioware's co-founder talking smack about jRPGs back in December.
Seems like the director of FF13 is just throwing it back in Bioware's face.

I guess this is why I don't really care what the director of FF13 says about wRPGs, since Bioware's co-founder instigated it.

Wasn't that what lead to the whole BioWare cliche chart jokes?

BTW

The last two are true in DA. >_>

And this one too big to post an image: http://gza.gameriot...._1257581825.png

Sorry, shoddy anime regurgitation of transcendentalist romanticism (which is more or less almost every anime in a nutshell) only works if its well written. Sadly, it wasn't. Instead, the game likes to frequently embellish its shoddy plot with incoherent additions to artificially length itself, so by the end, you didn't really have anything coherent.

I'm not going to say ME2 really stands out for its literary talent either. Rather, the point I was trying to make was that if the only reason to play your game is plot depth, then the plot better be really ****ing darn good.

For instance, while bioware RPGs just explores standard fiction and fantasy archetypes as well, it does so in a manner fitting of a game, one that encourages self exploration and enviromental awareness.     Final Fantasy does so in a linear fashion that is akin to a movie, and thus, must be judged in accordance wtih those standards.    In which it fails so hard.

Frankly, its kind of cheating.    Invoking Catharsis is quite easy when your physically controlling your protagonists decisions and interacting withy our squadmates.    But it works.     And it displays the merits of video games without trying to imitate movies, so it doesn't have as much to live up to.

That being said, I'm not a irrational japan hater.    Their are some Anime I liked alot.    To name a few, Grave of the Fireflys, Howes Moving Castle and Spirited away (not a fan of his other works though), Ghost in the Shell...

Btw guys, what's "weaboo" referring to? :P

If it's a person, then it's me. If it's a definition: Someone who's likely to kamikaze themselves in the name of Japan.

OK, lemme get this straight

Oh, I'm going to love this. Let's see what you come up with!

Yes, lets.

First you say

Congratulations, you've come to a satisfactory conclusion, I am indeed a weeaboo.  Sugoii

I was being sarcastic there. The 'sugoii' bit is actually obvious sarcasm.

Yes, obvious sarcasm, at least it would be, if the obvious sarcasm would be obvious to anyone but a weeaboo. Seriously.

Followed by

You assume I was a 'weeaboo' , and frankly that makes you the fool as well

I was stating that you were accusing me, which me to accuse you of assuming that.

You're still a fool, your own words.

Then come full circle with, in response to "what is a weeaboo"

If it's a person, then it's me.

Actually, that sentenced left out a lot of content and it was so ambigious. I was meant to say "If it's a person that's directed at, it's me as I'm apparently accused".

Ambiguity is only funny to weeaboos. Also, what kind of fail logic is this?
How can you possibly assume anybody but yourself is going to think that way?

I was right about you from the start, now who's the fool.

Still you.

NO U.

And this is why we can't have nice things.

*facepalm*

Thank you for correcting my mistakes, which I wasn't too bothered since it's 3:15am in the morning for me to care about spellings. Be glad I don't speak in txt spk.

Also, for one to accuse me of being a weeaboo, you need to understand what makes me a weeaboo. Let's see, have I actually obsessed myself with Japan? Have I slagged off other countries to make Japan look better?

Calm down, I was joking. Stop taking **** on the internet so seriously, especially at 3:15 AM.

Go to sleep.

Yes!

Not to mention that Ray has said a lot of the same things in defense of ME2. It being a game with a predefined protagonist and not having as many options and so on and so forth.

Uh oh, looks like he's managed to get a finger or two on the edge of the precipice.  Quick someone stomp on them before he pulls himself up with a cogent thought.

I enjoy arguing. Sure, the 'internet should be a glorious place where we should be free and accept everyone", but I argue in politics. When it comes to arguements, I'm arrogant and try to prove my point.

By the way, in keeping with the threads original course, Japan's touted "eastern point of view" is very... childish.

This is a country whose top games consistently include Mario or a Wii peripheral. That New Super Mario Bros. game has been number 1 for a while. Do they ever grow up there? It's like a nation of immature kids.

Compare that to America. Our number 1 game in November and December was Modern Warfare 2.

I think I'll keep my stupid "western point of view"

Regardless of "image", a good game is a good game.

You're putting Final Fantasy 1-12 as hits, EVERY ONE OF THEM?
And Star Ocean 1-7???
What rubric are you using?
LOL.
I doubt that Star Ocean 1-7's sales combined will be more than ME2.
I gotta love you man, you're absolutely weeaboo.  A true Japanophile

They were hits. Just because they don't fit your personal criteria for a good game does not mean they didn't do well.

And if the mod here won't do something about you name calling, I'll take PMs to one that will.

I am not a Japanophile, I just like the games they make.

If you really don't want the Star Oceans in there (I wasn't supper fond of them either) there's always Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Fire Emblem 1-5, Xexnosaga 1-3, Xenogears, Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid 1-4.

What is this madness?   Please stop being so dense, ruins any point you are trying to make.  Fire Emblem is made by Nintendo, Metal Gear is by Konami, Star Ocean only has 4 games, not 7, Xenosaga is made by Namco.  Chrono Cross is not a brand new IP it's a terrible sequel to one of the greatest games ever made.  Stop pulling games and numbers out of nowhere, if you want to state something as fact, put a source on it.

Like this mystical figure that ME2 outsold FFXIII in Japan.  I need to see it.  Because a cursory look just produced this:  http://www.gamasutra...tform_Sales.php

I was going to list out the hits and sales figures for each of bio and square's games but f that, no one else is putting even a modicrum of thought in to their responses and I refuse to waste my time with the blatant fanboy nonsense this thread has been comprised of thus far. (on both sides.)
