Typical ignorant comment regarding RPGs. I bet you complain that ME2 isn't an RPG too.

Not every game has to cater to a 'western audience' or my definition: 'the American Audience'.
I was merely pointing out that if he wants to complain about his JRPG not working out in the Western World, then he at least should take into consideration the factors.

No dog in this fight as I never played Final Fantasy, but a friend of mine told me that the criticism of FF is that it was a movie w/ a little bit of game play. Is that a fair statement for those who have played?
Hardly. Previous Final Fantasy games were more travelling, towns, talking to folks, fighting and 'cutscenes' [or speech bubbles before FFX]. With that criticism, he was more right on the mark about FFXIII, which isn't released in the west and therefore, I'll write that criticism off as 'trolling'.

I prefer character driven stories actually, as I believe them to be a more personal and far less obtuse and overdone affair. That doesn't make what he says all that incorrect. Leading the player by the hand, like a good book, is an easier way to tell a compelling story. Dropping them into a world and telling them to run amok has it's share of cons, and let's not kid ourselves and say that ME2's 4 story missions are somehow the essence of a deep and involving narrative.
I'm not understanding what you mean here. On one hand, you praise character driven story, which is what ME2 is all about, but then you say that ME2 doesn't have a deep and involving narrative. And then you say you prefer to have someone holding your hand through a story, saying that dropping into an open world to run amok is bad.
What are you saying here?

Truth. Its like a WRPG developer complaining about how their games don't sell well in certain places.
Like duh.

Made me laugh pretty hard, I approve
Anyway, I was really excited about FF13 for one reason only, its wasn't a Sony exclusive anymore. Not that I'll play it but sticking that in Sony's craw is worth a lot to me (paid in PS3 fanboy tears of course). That being said I think most jRPGs are not designed with us in mind and thus don't appeal to us. They have their formula, but FF and it's numerous clones have been been stagnant and going down hill for years now so I'm really not surpised this guy has a bug up his skirt about getting a lower score than ME1 and 2.

For a game to work in the 'western world' aka America, the game has to be centered around 'America'... or Fantasy Mythology. If FFXIII have Space Bald Marines and was set in a flying Island in America.
The reviewers will still slag it off however, saying it reminds them of Turok, but it's the sales that matter.

Hmm, a person by the name of "Chrono Mizaki" criticizing America and putting Japan in an ivory tower. Weeaboo?
Way to group our country's history and myths into a generalized statement by the way. Space Bald Marines set in a flying island in America?
The great thing bout our country is that we're a mix of a ton of cultures, each with their own myths. Wouldn't expect a Narutard to understand though.

wow instead of complaining about other gaming companys, the Jrpg companys should learn from the western rpg companys on what makes a GREAT game and use it, instead they keep creating the same crap over and over again :/
This pretty much strikes the nail on the head IMO. jRPGs are stagnant because they havn't changed their formula in what? At least 5 years if not closer to a decade. wRPGs are constantly switching up their forumula/gameplay/stories and while we may not like them all, at least we have a lot to chose from.
