They were hits. Just because they don't fit your personal criteria for a good game does not mean they didn't do well.ReDSH1FT wrote...
You're putting Final Fantasy 1-12 as hits, EVERY ONE OF THEM?
And Star Ocean 1-7???
What rubric are you using?
LOL.
I doubt that Star Ocean 1-7's sales combined will be more than ME2.
I gotta love you man, you're absolutely weeaboo. A true Japanophile
And if the mod here won't do something about you name calling, I'll take PMs to one that will.
I am not a Japanophile, I just like the games they make.
If you really don't want the Star Oceans in there (I wasn't supper fond of them either) there's always Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Fire Emblem 1-5, Xexnosaga 1-3, Xenogears, Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid 1-4.

Btw guys, what's "weaboo" referring to?
If it's a person, then it's me. If it's a definition: Someone who's likely to kamikaze themselves in the name of Japan.
OK, lemme get this straight
Oh, I'm going to love this. Let's see what you come up with!
First you say
Congratulations, you've come to a satisfactory conclusion, I am indeed a weeaboo. Sugoii
I was being sarcastic there. The 'sugoii' bit is actually obvious sarcasm.
Followed by
You assume I was a 'weeaboo' , and frankly that make you the fool as well
I was stating that you was accusing me, which me to accuse you of assuming that.
Then come full circle with, in response to "what is a weeaboo"
If it's a person, then it's me.
Actually, that sentenced left out a lot of content and it was so ambigious. I was meant to say "If it's a person that's directed at, it's me as I'm apparently accused".
I was right about you from the start, now who's the fool.
Still you.

Kingdom Hearts 1&2
Star Ocean 1-7
That's already over 20, and I didn't get all of the Final Fantasy's or any of the re-releases.
Also, each FF, (and that's 13 so far) is a brand new IP. When they've made a game in the same IP they don't give it a new number. Hence FFX-2, FFXIII: Versus, FFXII: Revenant Wings.
So as to how many original IPs Square has? Minimum of 13.
And there is often just as fantastic a difference between copying something and copying it well.
There you go... we all know how you meant that.
Maybe I used the wrong set of words, I meant to say, is not a copy-paste of a previous game. Quite a few games in FF are the same concept, just a different story.

To me, Diablo isn't an RPG either. All those games...Diablo, Champions of Norrath, the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance games; I just refer to them as dungeon crawlers. More a brawler than anything else.
I tend to draw a line between dungeon drawlers and RPGs as well. IMO what an earlier poster said about having a profound impact on the unraveling of the story is what defines an RPG to me. Lootwhoring and persistant micromanagement actually detract from the game, at least for me. Thats not to say ME, KotOR, and NWN weren't great RPGs, they definately were and I played the hell out of all of them. I just think mandating that a massive inventory and chracter sheet micromanagement be required for a "true RPG" is crap.

You do realize there are those who feel ME2 sucks too right? And they're perfectly valid in their beliefs like you are about FF13 sucking?
Tis personal taste.
RPG = playing a role. 99% of video games are RPGs. Sadly that's going to include something someone doesn't want in it. (For instance Mario/Pokemon/KingdomHearts/NeverwinterNights/MassEffect/FinalFantasyX/ChrnoTrigger/Xenosaga/etc.)
So Like Yeah. Calling something an RPG does nothing for me. >_>
And Atlus needs to stop bloody milking Persona 3 and come out with 5 already damnit!

I hope not. I actually pre-ordered the game.
...yes. Laugh at me. Laugh at the fool who preordered it. The gameplay sold it to me alone, and tell me: Who can deny flinging an enemy up in the air and doing air flurries whilst your allies spam lightning on it?

that of FFXIII's. Even on it's home turf, with all the massive press
about FFXIII, ME2 still had larger sales.
And FFXIII has sold 1.88m copies in Japan alone since its release. www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php
I know this may be hard to do considering what forum I am on, but can we tone down the foaming bile-ridden bias, and also the sniping at Mizaki, who's done very little wrong beyond defending himself from abuse.

Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest
Xenosaga
Kingdom Hearts
Star Ocean
Chrono Series
Musharhi [SP?] [Might check that one for spellings]
Parasite Eve [More like a borrowed IP, since it's based on the books]
The Worlds Ends With You
Sigma Harmonics [japan Only]
Mana Series
Quite a lot of original IPs. And there's more. The problem however? They are largely ignored in favour of the big three [Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts]
Read my sentence again, I said hit. Largely ignored is quite a synonyme for me as not being a hit.

Actually, that's not what I meant by that at all.
I meant that the JRPGs have done everything that the WRPGs have done, and done it first. And many WRPGs qualify only as pale comparisons. Not BioWare though. BioWare does a fantastic job.

How, how are those Star Ocean games hits? How many people have actually played all of them? How many agree that they are all amazing, like you seem to think?
You're comparing Star Ocean 4 to KOTOR, do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Parasite Eve was a 'hit'. After all, it spawned a 'sequel'. And it does have its cult fanbase, which is why The 3rd Birthday is in development.
