you know what i think Reapers are?they are a WMD, AI driven with set protocols that we designed for an ancient enemy.like
a Biological bomb that doesn't recognize national borders, it got spun
out of controls. It is AI for all intensive purposes, but there are set
parameters that are in there hardwired in there..... it is in the
nature of the 'weapon' that it operates the way it operates.

indoctrination.
mass genocide
resource stripping.
'genetic' material used in MAKING more Reapers.

it all points to a sort of weapon, rather than a living being to me.
It's
sort of the opposite of the Geth.. where the Geth are apparently
inquisitive and curious as to why their creators turned on them. I'm
inclined to think that the Reapers were of the opposite nature.any thoughts on this?

So basically they're grey goo. Not an entirely crazy idea.

Certainly they are Weapons of Mass Destruction but them being an AI weapon that went wrong doesn't fit in so well with their harvesting and using species to rebuild themselves.

So...youre basically saying that Reapers are N.a.z.i.s?

Man, they actually censor n.a.zi.?

For mentioning n.a.z.is or h.i.t.l.e.r they should censor you.

We aren't here to discuss a "Nutjob political dickwad organization", we are discussing the "Reapers".

Anyone recall the first "Star Trek" movie? V'ger, was designed to roam the galaxy, attain information and report back "it's" findings.

Somewhere in the galaxy, an alien race took that as meaning, "learning" through any means necessary, regardless of how the information was attained.

Vger then, through countless years, started looking for 'its' "creator", and because nobody could decypher its' language, took all resouces, and 'catalogued' them.

Easteregg time,.............The Reapers, are "looking" to unload their massive intellect, If we can decypher their language.

I always took Soveriegns' statement on Virmire "We are beyond your comprehension", as a challenge!

I think it would be wonderfully ironic if the Reapers are fighting a war with the next Galaxy over, and simply using biological creatures in the Milky Way to recoup their losses during this war. Then, when we fight back against the Reapers and destroy them all, our galaxy is ripe for an ass-kicking from whatever threat the Reapers have been keeping at bay for millenia.

Whatever the reasons for the Reapers creation in the first place, we probably shall never really know. Perhaps even the first Reaper does not know why it was created. But, they are AI's. And as they "sentient" beings, they need to have a reason to exist. Perhaps to them, they believe they are saving the galaxy to some extent by wiping out all advanced organic life. Or perhaps they are doing it for a reason they themselves to not know/understand.

They are machines after all. No matter what, if they were programmed to do something, even as an AI, they would do it until their programming kicks in the stop code or someone presses the big red button. Or perhaps they were built as an ultimate weapon against a foe powerful enough to fight whoever made them to the point where they were desperate enough to do it. And if there was anyone left of that race by the time the first Reaper wiped out whoever they were fighting, well it probably came back and bit'em in the arse.

The Geth call them the Old Machines so it's hard to say if their sentience and consciousness could have come from AI or not.
