You have to choose the right options in the conversation after meeting Goldana ('People are out for themselves'--don't worry, Alistair hears 'You have to look out for yourself more'), and reaffirm that in a conversation back at camp with Alistair. Then you have to arrange the marriage before landsmeet. I haven't done that ending myself though. You couldn't pay me enough money to make Alistair marry Anora. ;)

He will stick around to be king, but he will ALWAYS leave the group. He won't serve alongside Loghain, no matter what.

my first playthru was with a Dalish Elf Rogue and I always used Alistair is my tank...can't imagine my group without a tank. so Rogue,Al, Leliana for her massive ranged damage, and Wynne for healing was able to make easy work of the foes we came across. Ah yes, the spiteful sister...so you have to make him a selfish SoB to get that ending? LOL. I will have to try that, thanks.

The epilogue only says that their rule is a decent sucess, not that either is happy.

Happiness is irrelevant. One hopes that they grow to enjoy each other's company over time, but really, all Alistair needs to do is get her knocked up with an heir  - anything else is a bonus.

The Anora+Alistair pairing is not very likely to produce anything - just like any other pairing.

Yep, the lack of fertility is almost surely a future plot point, as it's across the board. In terms of an heir, it doesn't seem to matter who you put on the throne, but Alistair by himself would have the best shot as he can pick a queen who hasn't gone five years without pregnancy, or who is tainted. Even then the odds are against it, and I don't think that's an accident.

I find it interesting that everyone assumes Anora cannot get pregnant, particularly the women on this forum.  Has no one considered that maybe it was Cailan that was "shooting blanks?"  Maybe this has been suggested previously, but everything I seem to read is that she's to "blame."  Kind of a chauvinistic thought process.

It's a rumour inside the game and it's being adressed twice (once in the original campaign, once in RTO). Why do you think that is?

^this.

I've just typed and retyped a whole bunch of fertility issues, feminism and my thoughts therein, but this place isn't probably the place for it. I'll just say that women have a history of being our own biggest enemies, a notion that is not entirely our fault. THANKS PATRIACHY. THANKS A LOT.

I believe the poster was referring to the fact that no matter who you put on the throne, there are heir issues.  Anora ruling on her own never re-marries, Anora marrying Alistair has his taint problem (and the fact that they hate each other problem), and the two Wardens marrying presents a double-taint whammy.  The best chance of an heir seems to be letting Alistair rule alone and hoping he picks a fertile Bimbo Bannorn as queen.

I know what the game implies and the potential foreshadowing of such, I'm just surprised that no one (particularly the women gamers) have considered the alternative.

That may be due to them wanting the best situation, who would you prefer to see as infertile, the last (official) heir of a decidedly important bloodline or this ones wife. If Anora would have been royal, it would be the other way round.

It totally is, from our modern perspective. If you role-play strictly enough then your PC, being a product of its time, would probably blame Anora and that could be a legitimate deciding factor in who they throne

Mostly though, it's just an interesting development from an endgame perspective, because it throws more doubt onto the idea of an heir in all of the endings, rather than it just being an issue for the female PC + Alistair (or Anora alone).

Oh brother.  If Anora rules alone, she doesn't re-marry.  Is she oppressed by patriarchy then?

I've heard plenty of times in discussions about Cailan and Anora that it is just as likely one as the other.

The only reason I think that is that I believe we're supposed to think that, they're setting it up to be an issue. Also, it doesn't matter if it was Cailan. He had to stay king, blanks or not. Anora doesn't have to stay. She has no real right the throne--consorts don't inherit rule. If all one is concerned about is an heir, the one that guarantees the largest possibility of sucess is Alistair alone. Does it mean Anora is infertile? Nope. But there's no reason to risk it, especially when you don't have to.

See above.  It's been discussed plenty.  Can we stop with the feminism sermons now?  Eamon suggesting putting Anora away doesn't even mean that he is saying it is Anora's fault, but that Cailan should try something else in case it is- a Theirin heir being the primary goal for him.

As for Anora not bearing children, think about who she was married to. Did he ever take off his shiny metal suit?

That was the issue, was it? The issue was about Cailan/Alistair and Anora, and whose "fault" it was why she cannot produce heirs. Eamon obviously thought it was Anora's if the codexes/letters from RTO are anything to go by...

He does assume that, but his goal is to see a Theirin heir.  If in doubt, from his perspective you have to try another "candidate."

Fereldans are obviously aware of male fertility because Alistair talks about it in regards to the taint.

Well, not really. He doesn't say 'Anora can't have children', he says that there hasn't been an heir. Cailan has to be the father if  it's possible, but even if Anora was to have a child with someone else, it would do no good.

Well, we don't know that. For all we know, Anora didn't get pregnant before because Cailan was too busy polishing his sword in the armoury.

Bahahaha!

...As for the infertility issue because of the taint, I'm not so sure, Morrigan (apparently) gets herself knocked up relatively easy. Maybe a tainted child only lives to 30, that's still more than enough time to produce another offspring, or maybe the child develops an immunity to the taint.

I have to say that the infertility thing does seem like an opportunity for future civil war, or something along those lines.

Morrigan no doubt had the help of her magic ritual. That's why I hold out hope for the female noble PC to produce an heir, BTW. Gaider said "by no natural means." That leaves the unnatural. :) I suppose the same could be said for an Anora-Alistair match, but there you have a certain motivation problem, no doubt.

Morrigan does have a ritual up her (leather) sleeve.

For the record, I'm a female gamer and I don't blame Anora for the lack of children, nor do I see her as an ice queen. She clearly has feelings for Cailan, and she is also fond of her father even though she realises he is doing more harm than good by the time you get to meet her. She is pragmatic and has a strong sense of duty, which she no doubt got from Loghain, but she's not cold. Not if you can be bothered to dig a little deeper.

On the other hand, I see Arl Eamon as a bit of a ****** - if there was an option to let the old buffer die and replace him with Teagan, I'd do it. After all, he treats Alistair like crap because he's too spineless to stand up to his Orlesian cow of a wife, but once Cailan snuffs it he's all "let's be Al's cuddly uncle and put him on the throne." Harrumph.

I hated Lady Isolde so... so much.

I could also have killed Anora for selling you out at Arl Howes place, although second play-through I realized that I had actually done the one thing she asked me not to do... That'll teach me not to listen to her I suppose. Anora's true downside though is that she's a little on the small side, she's a tad too short to be a guard.
