I'm in the same "they're probably bald" camp, but I am also fascinated now. More "Word of God"? About quarians? You've piqued my interest.

Humans are the only freaks with hair

They have glowing eyes and are heavily cybernetically modified. It makes you wonder how much organic tissue is left.

Where did you get this? They specifically say in ME1 that they are not synthetic underneath the suits.

The next ME race will be covered in fur... if the volus aren't already. Bank on it! ;)

In my opinion, no. I sort of visualize fine features and smooth heads, think Zhaan from Farscape. (Not in personality so much, that woman could be downright frightening.)

Well since they seem to be following the Star Wars path (ME2 was Empire), I'm betting the Volus will be revealed as Ewoks. And they will be critical to defeating the reapers with cleverly made log traps. Likely they will sing after.

I tend to think if they did it's gone now, if only to make life in a helmet easier.

And then comes the Mass Effect Holiday Special.

i cant see them removeing the suits to cut the hair so as much as i hate to say it she is or for that matter all quarians are bald. Wish it wasnt so but if they did they probably wouldnt have it now, though with that said they could be a species that doesnt evolve well and there hair is still growable but cause of the suit its stunted

I think the Quarians used to have hair, but they lost it in the last few hundred years or so because they're always in their suits.

It would make sense that they adapt to their new situation. The fact that they're always in their suit means that hair doesn't have any function and would only be bothersome. That's why I think they're (mostly) bald now, but might grow back their hair once they can live without their suits again.

Usually evolution wouldn't work that fast and get rid of quarian hair in just 300 years just because of their suits. We humans still have our wisdom teeth and appendix and although both cause more harm than doing any good we are stuck with them for a long time.

But then again the quarian immune system also shouldn't have gone almost completly absent in just 300 years. So I guess my argument is invalid and "quarians are different" like Tali says ;)

It's a safe assumption but only an assumption. The codex makes a point of saying that both species evolved along similar lines but just have different DNA, being dextro based.

Yup, its a strong assumption.

Their immune system isn't gone per say, its just badly atrophied after all this time. And even new borns are affected because of the lack of strong immune defences in the mothers.

Ah but there is, if quarians are anything like us they'll prooduce their own filth, and having hair just makes it that harder to stay clean and would hold on to food for bacteria.

They probably do.  In some lighting there is discolorization above there eye.  Its not the light glaring because the skin is around it is the same color and where the "hair" is you can see it there in different lighting and with different Quarians.

I think the hoods indicate that they have some form of head ornamentation, whether it's hair, tentacles or giant serrated bones coming out. The males having it farther back indicates that maybe males are bald on top, and since the males also have scarves coming out from the bottom of their helmets I'd hazard a guess that they also have some form of facial hair/tentacle beard along their jaws.

Well there is enough room for hair on Tali's helmet under the cloth.

They can't be, the Protheans already have that covered.

*glances over at your Liara icon* I think that one is already covered. Just saying.
