Whats everybody's opinion on this skill?

Do you find it useful past rank 1?

How effective is CS against barriers on insanity?

Is it worth maxing CS to rank 4 on squad members? If so, which ones?

For Hardcore and lower difficulties it's certainly nice to max esp. if you have area effects that strip defenses. For insanity I'm not sure how useful it will be compared to other possible companions and skills [I.E. a lot of folks are likely to take Miranda on tons of missions and may not take too many of the folks that can get CS]

As with many things the usefulness of the skill depends on your playstyle, skills, game difficulty, other companions, who you're fighting, etc.

Against Barrier I found the results disappointing.

I was a soldier and just beat my insanity play through today. I never used Concussive shot and I never used my bonus power. I had no trouble.

Only tricky part was getting the IFF, I had to give up some ground on that one due to the husk swarms, but nothing I couldnt handle

I'd say it's useful for a primary soldier, it's one of their two activated abilities map it to a quick use hotkey and suddenly you've got a useful way to quickly take off some shields or knock down a charging enemy.

I'd say it's worth maxing on a squad member, Garrus most notably imo, he can be great sniper support and if you active use his CS it can be like having your own personal guardian-sniper.

Just my thoughts, I don't go in for insanity min-maxing but I found the skill useful in many situations

Adrenaline Rush is so powerful that this doesn't make sense for Shepard.

I like it on my squad mates, but I don't see any reason to get it past rank 1 (or 2 if needed to unlock something). It's useful for disabling an enemy on their health bar for a bit if you can't kill them immediately (i.e. you're focusing a stronger target). Only Garrus, Zaeed and Grunt get it:

Garrus - It's his only active ability besides Overload. If you don't have any shields to burn with Overload, you might as well try and take something out of the fight with Concussive Shot.

Zaeed - It's his only active ability pre-loyalty. Post loyalty it's still useful against barriers and if you need to CC an enemy on health (it works on heavy mechs and geth primes!)

Grunt - It's his only offensive active ability. Again, good to use when you have the chance to CC a health enemy for a bit or soften a barrier and he doesn't need to use Fortification.

It sucks against barriers, but usually the characters who have Concussive Blast don't have anything else to use against barriers (and actually, they're bad choices for most missions with lots of barriers; i.e. the Collector missions, except potentially Grunt for dealing with husks).

for optimum builds you'll rarely stray from using rush every cooldown. I'd max it at the end of my play through, though. I like having it around for when I lift enemies with my squad powers I can CS them toward pits or at the very least away from my squad. More a fun factor than a necessity though.

The area concussion shot is useful to disable a group for some time but damage output is too low.

Just ran Horizon with my Infiltrator and had Grunt along for the ride (ME2 - CQC Infiltrator 3 - Horizon). I don't snipe very much and found Grunt's Concussive Blast really really really useful for knocking back enemies and staggering enemies with barrier long enough for me to handle the rest. It also destroys frozen enemies (have Cryo Ammo and Mordin with me too). I've never had a Soldier past level 5 or so, so I don't know anything about Shepard having it.

The only real use I've found for it on higher difficulties is one-shotting Husks (after shooting/Warping/Incinerating off their armor). Even that is kind of meh. It also does 3.5x extra damage to barriers, but its base damage is so low that the multiplier doesn't really help.

Look at my video (though it's probably still processing). I get tons of use out of it via Squadmates.

I never used it when I played as a Soldier. Totally useless skill on Insanity (did not test on lower difficulties), Adrenaline Rush + Assault Rifle (Revenant laters) fire does a lot more damage than CS.

When it comes to damage, it's pittance.  Do you spend points to upgrade it on a Soldier?  I don't know.  Give it to Grunt and use it to get enemies off your back because he has no other active skill?  Yes.

I did test both evolved versions, neither is worth 10 points. Yeah, I usually give it to Grunt, because I just cannot put it anywhere else (CS, Krogan Pureblood and Fortification is exactly 30 points), because otherwise he would just overwrite my squad Cryo ammo with his inferno and I hate when that happens.

Thankfully he doesn't come with a point invested in it, or it's not his unlock because then you can't get rid of it...  Looking at you Garrus!

I found CS was highly successfull. Grunt and I would double CS Harbringer into submission. Then I blew him away with Inferno Rev.

Edit: You know the dreaded Collector Platform Ambush, well after a couple of Miranda's AOE Warps Grunt and I launched everyone sky high. I think I deserve some style points.

Yep, that is very annoying. Fortunately, I do not use Garrus, except for his loyalty mission.

Concussive Blast is moderately useful. Aside from insta-killing Husk groups, it also knocks enemies on their back - kind of like a long cool down Throw, actually. Area Overload from your squaddies, advance aggressively, then Concussive Blast at short range does a real number on groups of mooks. Easily preferable to Adrenaline Rush using that tactic because it shuts off all fire coming your way from those enemies.
