Cursing in the Game

I'm not gonna quote your post since I think your browser had an accident all over it or something, but, NoShtSherlock (and, uh, your entire username is a swear? Personally, I think you lack the intellectual vocabulary to get your point across.), the characters that swore the heaviest--well, just Jack, really, was not a person with an intellectual vocabulary. She wants to shock and be nasty, that's the entire point of her appearance and attitude. If you think she's crass, well, then, she was successful.
I can't comprehend trying to censor swearwords for adults. You can't play with your kid watching over your shoulder, that's one thing, but if your parents can't handle ****, that's their problem. If you were old enough to buy the game for yourself, it shouldn't be an issue.

The argument that people that use profanity have inherantly inferior vocabulary is just an excuse to try and make prudes like yourself feel superior. There is no reason that someone who uses profanity in casual conversation couldn't also be extremely verbose when so desired. Using profanity shows absolutely nothing about one's vocabulary unless they're using it for every other word. Not a single character in game, not even Jack, use it to such an extent. So kindly climb down off of your moral high-horse, you aren't fooling anyone.

I agreethere is too much cursing in the game and ignore the petty wise cracks from
some of these other gamers. There is no need for cursing to put a point
across in my opinion and this cursing was put in to shock and make characters
seem tough and nasty.

as far as i remember Jack is the only one who swears. she's insane and a serial killer so its in the character. i do appreciate that not every character drops it like were playing gears of war, but its still nothing to get all worked up over.

That being said, bleeping would be stupid, and it would cost ridiculous amounts of extra cash for a insignificant feature to produce alternate dubs.
Also, lol@intellectual vocabulary. ME2 takes place on a paramilitary vessel. Throughtout the game, your dealing with mercs, gang leaders, pirates, and slavers. No cursing would be unrealistic as fuck!.

Oh, I thought you were saying that adding the option to censor certain parts would make people not want to buy the game.Mikazukinoyaiba2 wrote...

by supporting family settings it doesn't censor the game, just stops you from playing it entirely.AlexHoff wrote...
Are you talking about the PC version? Because I believe there are parental control settings for the 360 console, not just the game, that I imagine would help with that... On the back of the ME2 box, in fact, it is stated "Supports family settings."
My point was that the 360 family settings doesn't solve the OPs problem.

No, I would not appreciate it. I may find Jack's language inappropriate (not because of the swearing itself, but because it feels forced) but I'd hate to see the game toned down even further due to people confusing morals with bad language, nudity or some similar tripe.

To clarify, as it seems some people aren't comprehending my intention, I merely meant for the option to be there, as someone mentioned, a toggle. I was curious to see if anyone else would particularly care. Frankly, I'm surprised as to the amount of responses; I didn't think people would care that much. I appreciate the input.

You could probably apply that sort of thing to general speech of certain characters in this game. Jack and Aria are a prime examples ... for characters like them, it makes sense for them to say the occasional f-bomb. After all, they're like renegades to society or something. It's part of their personality in some ways.
I don't know about you, but you're shooting things and there's blood present. Last time I checked, shooting someone in the face will hurt them a lot more than telling them to f-off. If someone can handle a violent video game, but not handle violent language ... then I think that person is very strange.
Anyway, I don't know about making a version of the game with censored language, but I do know that in other countries, Germany in particular, they usually have a censored version of an otherwise uncensored North American released. But most times though, only the gory bits are censored-- I'm pretty sure that if the game was translated, the profanity comes along with it.
Although, come to think of it, a "censored" version could make sense from a lore standpoint. OMG! LOLlore! ... I'm pretty sure that a user of machine translation devices as mentioned in this Codex entry could set up their translation software to change profane words to words that would seem "politically correct". Although, considering that we're playing the role of Commander Shepard, not a customized avatar that one would make in a game like Dragon Age, it might be a strange bet that Shepard is a linguist and we, as players, just happen to hear all his incoming conversations in English just for the sake of simplicity.
