Any delusion about the proper way to communicate is wrong by default. There is no "appropriate" there is only perception. If "you" are offended by how someone else communicates that is "your" problem.

So being a retard in public is okay if you think that's the way everyone should act? Oh dear.

Thinking anyone should act the way "you" do is retarded.  You are the result of unique perspective and experiences.  Assuming that anyone thinks or behaves like you do for the same reasons is retarded.

If your mind has matured into adulthood you should be able to embrace the concept of perception if not this will just be confusing the crap out of you.  Posted Image

I thought some of the swearing was a bit out of place considering the first game was squeaky clean. But it is supposed to be a darker, grittier kind of game.

Really? The only words that I never heard in ME1 were fu** and sh**.

I support the option, but, being the mean person I am, I find it odd that adults can't tolerate a couple f-bombs, even when in the context of an amazing story.

I believe do not understand each other on this one. Rather than write an essay, let me clarify with a simple question.

Do you believe it is okay to say "f**k you" to a complete stranger for no reason?

If the answer is "yes", then you are wrong. If your answer "no", I think we are on the same lines here.

The only problem with this is that everyone is different. Clearly there are people you meet in this world that think its perfectly okay to do so. Obviously there are people who would never consider doing this.

Its not every character in the game that think swearing is okay. Just certain ones. It creates greater belivability in the universe when people aren't all exactly the same. Jack swears alot. Samara does not. Joker only swears to himself.  Tali swears as bad as Jack but in Quarian.

Variety makes for a richer experience. Doesn't mean you as a player need to like them.

No matter what I believe I am "right".  That is what you are missing.  If I greet strangers by saying "**** you" who are you to judge me for it?  Are you so mentally stunted that you can't accept that someone else thinks and believes different things than you do?

**** is a word used for a thousands different expressions.  None of them are "wrong".  The only reason you believe any of them are wrong is the direct result of mental manipulation when you were a child.  If you still think like a child and can't understand that your "perception" isn't reality and never will be, then this conversation is well beyond you.

Yeah, I am kinda disgusted with people who are overly sensitive to 'language'.  It's only a feeling, and they should get over that feeling.

Jack in ME2 was very well done and I hardly noticed the cursing. It suited for her character.

Just getting a feel here that Zenn thinks it's his right to say whatever he wants in peoples face. I probably just misunderstood where he stood on this. Anyway, society sets certain rules that are there for a good reason. Acting like an ass all the time is not crime, but people like that aren't getting far... well, except for renegade Shephard. Heh.

I agreethere is too much cursing in the game and ignore the petty wise cracks from
some of these other gamers.  There is no need for cursing to put a point
across in my opinion and this cursing was put in to shock and make characters
seem tough and nasty.

A person or a character that need to curse to get a point across lacks the
intellectual vocabulary to voice their opinions or thoughts in any situation,
debate or discussion.  Again this cursing
in the game is another shock value instance within this game.[/b]

Bull****.

Jack wouldn't be the same without cursing. I mean, given Jack's position, do you really think she could care less about vocabulary? She's a psychopathic ex-gangster criminal with ruthless, nasty friends in her past.

Besides, swearing is a good way to blow of steam. I know I feel a whole lot better after a bunch of nasty swearing when I'm really f*cking angry.

Your language is lovely-_- Do you kiss your mother with that mouth.  I disagree I think that if the characteristics and personality of Jack had been better written she still could have come across as mean, nasty and angry without the use of swearing.  It's very clear to me that you can't debate or discuss in an intellectual manner and therefore there is nothing else to say to you other than I disagree with all your points

Bioware tries to infuse our culture with a futuristic setting.  In our culture alot of people throw out F bombs every sentence.  This game is rather tame considering.  Plenty PLENTY of modern films have far far more cursing than this game, do they suffer the same criticism of you?

It doesnt matter if its necessary to get the point across, they are trying to TELL IT HOW IT IS, not tell it in the most clean manner possible.

and seriously your name is NoShtSherlock and your complaining about cursing?

As I've said before and I hate repeating myself words like sht I don't have a problem with its the F word that I have the problem with, does that clear things up.:D

Really? People whine about cussing in a M rated game? Not to mention ME2's cussing is really lite itself...Seriously?

I didn't mind the swearing too much. But some of Jack's lines felt like they just threw it in there with no purpose.

Firstly, I appreciate that the cursing is somewhat limited to certain characters. I understand the world is not always a polite place.
I'd like to be able to show my parents this piece of science fiction though; my father would appreciate the voice acting, I'm sure, given his same interest in sci-fi.  Or I could show it to my brother, to get him interested; I like having people to talk about ME with. However, profanity's a bit of a no-no in our family. Yes, some shows cuss and we'll watch, but it's happens few times. With ME2, it's a bit more frequent and includes the f word - a bit more than a bit of a no-no.

So I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else would have appreciated a 'censored' setting for the dialogue. When playing by myself I wouldn't bother with it because cursing doesn't bother me that much, but I think it'd be nice to have.

Agree with IceColdFulcrum. Remember when movies would get an R rating when there was nothing bad, just one F-bomb? It's rated mature for a reason.

I happen to be a grumpy old man myself...hold on a sec, I think I see some kids on my lawn...

Okay back...

Yes I am a grumpy old man myself with a great relationship with his parents, and us both being adults, I see no problem with exposing them to elements of this game..as we are both (as previously mentioned) adults.

i actually agree with you.  I play the game and enjoy it, however, i could definitely do without the swearing.  An option to shut off/change the blatant "no no" words would be wonderful.  Due to the profanity, i am in a situation that i do not play this game when my kids are around/up do to their ages being 4 and 8.  Also, i don't really care for the swearing myself.  Great story line.. great characters and i  understand the need to show the darkside of the appropriate characters, but this can be done without using the "F" bomb and other such choice words.

Great topic!

See, this is where I just show how much of a complete abberrant form of a human being I am.

I play this Mass Effect game...where such nasty elements are presented such as:

Genocide
Mass Murder
Assault and Battery
Torture
...to name a few...

And in the middle of seeing countless depictions of one human killing another and worse, there is an occasional "no-no" word (not my term). And THAT gets the attention of the forum?

No the rampant murder and death elements are OK for kids and everything else, but toss in a word that someone decided was 'offensive' and all of the sudden we are in an uproar.

Someone contact the Reapers, I am ready to be pasted.

Here's and idea, tell you parents to walk outside, spend time in a public place go to a football game, have them experience the world, or have they been sheltered their whole lives? bottom line is all language should be accepted and if your parents don't like some one or your game because of the language tell them Were all adults here mom and dad, time to grow up!

People are still overreacting, all the OP did was suggest a toggle and asked what others thought. He didn't preach or force his opinion on others, yet those that disagreed insisted on insulting him and his family.

Hardly civil.

No offense, but the swearing is the minor thing compared to all the other stuff that goes on in Mass Effect.  I'd say the violence is the bigger thing in this game than the swearing.

Usually families that have swear words as a no-no usually have watching violence like we see in Mass Effect as a no-no too.  What do you plan on only playing all paragon and not doing any renegade prompts when playing to minimize the violence as much as you can?

I suppose that depends on where you live.

I HAVE seen a guy unload a pistol into a car full of kids.

I have not seen a lady walk down the street with her top down, though I have seen nudity and of course profanity.

Take a guess of which event still gives me nightmares.
