IGN.com took a second look at Mass Effect 2. Do they still feel the game deserves a 9.6?

Find out below!

they said there isn't anymore upgrading stuff? i upgraded all of my stuff to make it better. Didn't they spend anytime doing that? there were some good parts to I also miss the scanning thing when you boarded the normandy and the elevators

Have to agree, my opinion of the game hasn't lessened since the hype of release has died down.

No.

But it certainly deserves a 9.0 or something.

If the suicide mission were longer I would be crying for a 10/10

Except for the misstatement that there is no upgrading (I mean, hello, research upgrades...), I basically agree.

The plot and customization were too thin for me to give it a score that high. Personally, I'd rate it 9.0-9.2

I agree with Jess, the worst thing about the game is the box art.

They took out the ludicrously annoying "bull****" quality annoyances and replaced them with far less annoying things. ME2's flaws aren't glaring, ME1's were. As the second part of a trilogy, it's about as good as one could ask.

I felt like it was a great movie with dialogue/actors/action/etc. but the general theme just wasn't there. It felt like an episode of mission impossible instead of a complete movie. I'd probably give it a 9.0ish. Depends on the rubric I'm forced to use as a "reviewer". I have a lot of serious bug issues with the game, too. Tons of crashing/stuck chararcters. Things I'm not used to seeing in bioware games.

Jessica spoke the truth. And I miss the mako too.

I agree with the review for the most part. I would like to see the Mako, but only a couple of times in very short durations. I don't want to be driving a "retarded" truck (I say retarded since the thing was so hard to control at times...) for 20 minutes shooting at turrets and Geth "tanks" who have zero chance of ever hitting me.

My only real complaint is with the cover system, where it would sometimes face you the wrong way and totally screw up my aim. I would also like to see an option to disable auto-aim.

I rate this game 9.9/10.

They could have done more with the story, but as far as re-playability, actual gameplay, production value, class design, 'fun' factor, pacing and most other intangibles, I would definitely say the game did not disappoint. Even after I have played it for a while now.

I know I’m going to take a lot of flak on this…

Its not worth a 7 rating. There is not nearly enough side quests to keep anyone interested, it no longer a rpg/shooter now it’s a shooter with some story elements to it. The only good things about the game are the graphics, the main storyline and the loyalty missions to add some depth to you companions.

Sorry this game feels like a reboot more than a sequel with all the changes to dumb down the game.

*edited to clarify something.

To keep anyone interested or you interested? Speak for yourself.

They should have given it a 10. Like Tom Price said Bioware didn't dissapoint. They're still talking about it and when a company makes a great game they do deserve to be called out on it.

I believe Gamespot gave the game the most accurate score out of all the reviews: a 9.0. It is a wonderful game, but the scanning, the whole "streamlined" interface, and even less RPG elements than the first installment were big defects to an otherwise great sequel.

And I found myself agreeing with Jessica Chobo the whole time. Also she's hot!

Having played through it multiple time I would give it a 9.9 out of 10. The last point being lost for the scanning, and being a periphery thing only worth -.1. I also don't get how everyone makes the assumption that mako=scanning. I played the first game alot. I hated the mako on UNC missions. It was ok on story missions, they seem better suited to the mako. But there was no resources in ME1, only credits, and you got them everywhere. How the hell does bringing back the mako remove the need to scan for resources?

It has a great story, but it only has some story elements? I fail to see your logic.

I never understand why some people are glad there isnt a looting system in ME2. I for one miss it greatly, if you kill a boss and he carried a wicked shotgun why not pick it up?

Story elements that are not tied in to the main plotline. I guess I should have worded that better. Aside from the main plot and the loyalty mission (that are in a way tied in to the main plot) there is nothing really to do in the game. What’s the point of having a new large chunk of space to explore if there is nothing to do besides scanning planets and the whole 13 side quests?

I think the guy who made the 'Wester RPG' comments is paying people to change their mind on what ME2's rating should be now, lol

100 times this.  I miss the Mako too, infinitely more fun than the horrendous planet scanning for resources that we have in ME2.  All they needed to do was tone down every second planet being nothing but one big mountain range.  More planets like Holland ftw please BioWare :P

I still love ME2, I would give it an 8.5 or a 9, but I am one of those people that liked ME1 better in almost every way.

This was my main complaint with ME2 as well.   Not the stupid whining about shooter part, the fact that sidequests were detached from the plot.

And the lack of scope, and lack of exploration when landing at a new area.

Honestly, I'd give the game a 8.5.   Not because i didn't enjoy it, theirs just a lot they can improve on.      Don't believe in giving near perfect scores for almost anything unless its near perfect.
