9.6 - 10

That's what I would vote on. Try and compare this game to any other games in its catagory... Notice something strange? There are hardly no games with this genre, beatuty and scene (being space)

People are being jackasses you cannot compare this game to Hardcore RPG games such as World of Warcraft and you can't compare them to the Hardcore Novel Based games such as BioShock which in itself just has a story.

The only things I don't like about this game are - the planet scanning and how it gets tedious - the cover system.

This game is the golden expectation to set for future games of its genre FPS-RPG the only game that beats this game in terms of story plot and twists was BioShock 1

Don't try and prove me wrong until you find...

- Another space exploration RPG with a good plot
- Character depth
- Choices that afflict the future

Will anyone ever remember that Mass Effect 1 also had loading screens?

The two things I wish there were in Mass Effect 2 were looting and XP from killing.

Also the suicide mission should have been longer.

It had one or two but 99% of the game was loaded in the elevators and other background methods, so you never actually saw a loading screen persay

Everytime you entered a new system = Loading Screen
Everytime you put your Mako onto a planet = Loading Screen
Everytime you entered a planets base (like on an unexplored base for side quests) = Loading Screen
Everytime you visited a planet unskippable sequences = Loading

The only things that didn't require loading screens were the elevators espcially the ridiculously slow elevator on the Normandy -_-

Mass Effect 1

You cant compare Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2 ... ME:2 fixed all the stuff that was bad about ME:1

Mass Effect 1 = 9.1
Mass Effect 2 = 9.6

Yet another reason to not care about IGN anymore. If they have to go back and re-examine every review they do, why do them? How can we trust their scores? The whole thing is stupid.

I never understand why some people are glad there isnt a looting system in ME2. I for one miss it greatly, if you kill a boss and he carried a wicked shotgun why not pick it up?

I actually never really saw the Mass Effect 1 looting system  as anything worthwhile.  All the weapons were the same 2 models re-skinned with sometimes ludicrous looking colors (Pink on the Colossus armor for example...ugh..).  All the weapons were essentially set by a numbered level from I to X and each higher version had only slightly better stats.  This goes for many of the upgrades for your weapons and equipment as well.

In the end, I always felt that the Mass Effect 1 looting system was something completely hollow and uninspired.  While I would also like to see a really developed looting system in the vein of older RPGs like Diablo 1 and 2, I think the new system in Mass Effect 2 fits in nicely. It puts an emphasis more on qualitative differences than just the quantitative ones on ME 1.  All it needs is a little more variety in the weapons and armor categories and I think it would have been ideal.

They re-examined the review because people disagreed with the verdict - if enough people disagree they re-review the review haha.

IGN is one of the very decent review sites left out there.

Me, I'd give it an 9 out of 10.

It loses points for:

A: The bloody heatsink system. I don't mind a little drama, but it's not consistent And how do people that haven't heard from civilization in years have these things? Surely there would still be non-sinked or hybrid synched systems laying around. And why can't I use my sinks as i choose?

Don't force me to switch weapons, my Viper kills things at ANY range.

B: lack of in-mission helmet toggles.

C: reversal of default button settings.

D: random geometry traps.

But other than that, the improved 'shooting things from cover', faster load times, load animation, more camera sequences, more characters, and more DLC makes this game a Must Buy

Did you even watch the video? It was more of a round table discussion than a 'review.
Besides, even among gameing  websites there's bound to be differing opinions.

I actually agree with whoever said (paraphrasing) 'the things they added far outweigh the things they took away'. That's the point I wish people who complain about the game after just playing the first couple hours would understand.
So it lacks RPG elements. Does that make every game that lacks a looting and inventory system a bad game?

If you legitimately don't enjoy the game that's one thing, but understand that it's a matter of personal preferance and not the quality of the product which is definately there.

No, I can't watch it from here.  But regardless, they don't need to re-examine their reviews.  If they did this every time someone disagreed with their score, they'd be doing it for every single game.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to share their opinion on something like it's fact even though they're completely in the dark on the matter.
Sort of like all the people who blame EA for everything they don't like about ME2.

IMHO Mass Effect 1 was better in many ways than ME2 (on the PC, dunno about xbox) I also never understood why people say the mako was hard to controll, after a few hours of gameplay it was as easy as controlling Shepard. omitting the mako made the gameplay too linear and narrowed in, you never get the feeling you actually land on a new planet and can explore it. You just can pass through narrow corridors on a predermined route. ME lost a great deal of its greatness with the change of gameplay for me. Also the story feels more hollow and shallow. Not to spoiler anything in this thread but also the development in case of the reapers is also a major let down. Dont get me wrong its a great game and I love it, I just feel that most of the "improvements" are actually a downgrade for the game. Also the character who joins your team in the end could have been really marvelous, if available earlier and the NPCs would have an unusual reaction to his/hers/its presence in your team. And the game is also full of bugs. Shepard and teammates getting stuck floating in mid air many times, during many missions. And finally the game is too short. :(

What is there to be in the dark about?  It's in the title of the thread - "IGN.com Mass Effect 2 Second Opinion - Does it deserve a 9.6?"  Excuse me for thinking it doesn't *need* a second opinion.

As a TPS (which is what the game really is), it's a 9.0 on the 360 and a 8.7 on the PC.

I remeber looking at at the Mass Relay spinning in space with the text "Loading.." quite often. At least in the ME2 loading screens there's something to look at. I don't remember elevators anywhere but Citadel, Noveria and one in Feros. The  one in Nomandy was was few seconds ride followed by few seconds of "Loading.."

Most of the time when people disagree with a review score it's because they don't like the KIND of game being reviewed. You wouldn't care what score an RPG fan gives a pure shooter anymore than you'd go to a shooter fan for a review of Dragon Age. You wouldn't go over to the DA forums and demand that archery involve actual aiming with the mouse/stick because it's not that kind of game.

For some reason, merely making a hybrid RPG/Shooter makes people feel like they can demand just how much of each it should be. A game should get a 7/10 when it fails to be what it is attempting to be because it is poorly crafted, not because the reviewer has a chip on his shoulder about shooter gameplay in general.

So by that logic I should carry on with my review of St. Elmo's Fire despite having never watched the film... good to know.
