Well my last forum post was an epic fail. Yes i'll admit my mistakes and not try to be and "Internet Toughguy". I just want to know why she is loved so much.

This question is far overdue, try a few years overdue

Tali = the new Aries. In other words, the vulnerable, quite girl that nerds idolize instead of the eyecandy.

I can't work out if you mean Aerith or Aerie, but either way I think they're pretty much wrong. Aerie was too wet, and whined all the time. Aerith was actually quite outspoken and anything but quiet+vulnerable.

Tali gets things done herself, and always speaks up if something's on her mind. She's only a bit bashful when it comes to romance, which is understandable given her situation.

I think he means Aries from final fantasy 7

You mean Aerith, and I addressed that :)

I'm pretty sure in the game she is called Aries.... but its 3 am I'm exhausted and just trolling the internet right now. -_-

Some of it, from a psychological standpoint, is certainly a projection by certain people of traits they would desire in a significant other that they do not have. But really, considering video game tends to be the realm of geeks in general, do you really want to use that argument?

I know plenty of people that play this game that adore Tali as a character that have girlfriends. My girlfriend thinks Tali is adorable, though she plays a fem shep when she plays.

Maybe, just maybe, it is a well written character, and on top of that is one of the few carry overs from ME 1. And that is why people like her.

This is a good post. People keep in mind that we are all guilty of playing a game that contains pretend dudes and ladies that you can date. You don't get much more geeky then that, and insulting other people doesn't actually make you cooler.

Agreed completely. Tali isn't some "innocent" wallflower. She's a tech geek with a shotgun, and she isn't afraid to use either of those skillsets to kick your ass if she has to.

Aeris or Aerith, depending on the translation.

Back on subject, I love Tali as a character quite a bit. She's charming, kind, opinionated, resourceful, gentle, strong, intelligent, modest, selfless, loyal, considerate, brave, loving, and a lot of other positive attributes that really don't need mentioning.

I actually am still surprised she's got her own 1000+ page thread since I'd always felt my opinion of her was in the minority. But it's well-deserved. She's a stellar character and a fantastic counter to the typical "sex sells" designed women, like Miranda or Liara. She's proof that a strong personality and well-crafted story can topple generic eye-candy and gratuitious T&A. And for that alone, I appreciate her.

Very true. Even Garrus backs down when Tali reminds him she has a shotgun. :)

Actually, she might just be an example that more subtle sex appeal sells just as well as the more blatent type.

Yes indeed. Remember before she even meets Shepard, she took down geth by herself on her pilgramage, recovered critical data and faced down Saren's men without realizing you were there to help.

She also isn't afraid to speak her mind concerning Cerberus on their own ship, and even Jacob doesn't want to get on her bad side. Even Ken & Gabby start referring to her as the 'boss.'

The only thing she's nervous about is revealing her feelings for Shepard.

Hmm this is a hard one. Tali is cute, intellagent, has a shotgun so she can look after herself :) There's the mystary facter as well, we have no real idea what she looks like. The accent :) Hell if she were real (or meet a girl like her) I'd be a happy man indeed. It's hjer personailty more than anything. as for the other two LI's they don't appeal to me at all.

Reasons to like Tali [compared to other women in game]:

-- Sweet accent [only one with much of an accent]

-- She is way exotic [sometimes not knowing is more enticing than too much knowledge]

-- Silly curvy in many of the right places

-- Mysterious

-- Vulnerable

-- Sweet, sensitive, and tough when needed

-- She's the only one that was willing to stand by him when the others were "too busy"

-- She had legit excuses not to hop into the sack before the final mission

-- She might actually like Shepard for who he is instead of what he is

Disclaimer: I married a sweet foreign lady that can be tough when need be so my tastes are obvious.

I never saw her as vulnerable, it is the story it keeps placing her in situations where she is exposed or under great duress. Forcing her to be vulnerable. I guess it tingles the knight in shinning armour complex anyone may have that Shepard is there to take care of it.

Why I like her is for the reasons many of already listed. Especially Alamar2078's list does a good job. Also I find out of all the LI, she is very sensual, the way she strokes Shepard's arms, the way she moves in reaction to the dialogue. Her sort of timid shyness yet bold statements when the ice is broken just adds to her charm. When you listen to the audio journals on her recruit quest, you can feel the adoration, or the way she talks to you after a favourable result from her trial.

What signed my death warrent is her speech of watching you when you fight Saren, the Rachni, and had to sacrifice Kaiden/Ashley, that she watched you the hole time and had to see your face and ever wondered if you will ever past 'this'. It was hard to decide who swooned harder, my Shep or me!

One thing no one ever mentioned is there was something I noticed about her in ME1 which I really did like and made me partial to her in ME1. Is the second chance dialogue options. When you argue with her about the Geth, then apologise for it, she apologises too. Also (I noticed this on my **** to everyone Shep), when you act mean to her, she acts startled or hurt/offended, and then you are given a choice to apologise and go with the more 'Paragon' treatment of her. This, second chance dialogue option made her feel way more real than the other characters. It actually felt like a dialogue, say something mean, see her go the way she did, then be sorry for it.

Lastly, I will admit I was fan of her in ME1. But I never considered her as a romantic option or wanted her to be. When I heard she was back in ME2, I was happy but did not expect or want to actually romance her. It was her dialogue in ME2 that made me change my mind. I did not romance Tali, she romanced me.

You'll probably get different reasons from different people. But here are my reasons:

1) She was loyal, and stood by Shep when others could have but chose not to. (Not including Wrex here, he obviously could not.)

I believe Liara was the only one who never gave up on Shepard and outright refused to believe he was dead and then of course when found out he was dead tried to bring him back. That's loyalty. Tali, Wrex, Garrus and Kaidan/Ashley all just moved on with their lives like literally nothing happened.

Fortification activated.

Thats not the same as standing by you. Liara got far too fixated on Batman-like vengance that she lost sight of what she was actually trying to accomplish by getting you back.

And its not like Tali or Garrus wouldn't have gone to equal lengths to get you back if they had been given the same leads. They absolutely would have. Hell, Garrus was already on Omega. If TIM knew that he probably would have went to him instead of Liara. He avoided going to Tali because of the obvious problems between Cerberus and the Flotilla.

Well Liara's turned into a hard **** (Ashley always was one), and Miranda is fundamentally unlikeable for the first half of ME2 since she's so snobbish and superior. Jack is .. clearly not to everyones taste, and then there's Tali.

She was in ME1, so there's sentimental attachment right off the bat .. she's clearly interested in Shepard as she talks about him in her diaries/logs .. she has one of the best loyalty missions, character-wise .. you get to save her from exile AND avenge the death of her father .. she also has enough trust in you to put aside 300 years of racial hatred and work alongside Legion.

Also, there's the accent, the endearingly awkward nerdiness, the figure, and (having seen a picture of Liz Sroka, her voice artist) it's hard not to imagine the hidden face behind the mask as being attractive.

It's not really a question of why people like Tali; it's more a case of why would people like anyone but Tali.

I also agree with Madecologist ... Tali's logs, conversations, the items that Kelly notices, etc. all add up to Tali being easily the most interesting of the female LIs in ME2 [for me].

If you've ever watched a Miyazaki film (Nausicaa, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, etc.) then you will recognize Tali's type instantly: the cute, socially awkward but good-hearted and tough-as-nails heroine. We like Tali because, well, we're suckers for that. :)
