So Jesse decided to add me as a friend (I'm touched).
I prefer to just go to the site to accept these sorts of things, rather than clicking the link in the email. I do this this to avoid having the link steal my email tab (thus losing the session) or some other flummery, plus it just lets me visit the site normally and get all the other goodness.
Previously, there has been a little pink notification bubble that tells me there is a friend request labelled "n new update(s) x " where n is a number.
The whole point of this story is that when I came to the site today, I see that the poor little guy has been mangled! Screenshot is here: social.bioware.com/uploads_user/1000/53/54.jpg .
Furthermore, it only showed up when I went to the Forums section. I'm certain that it would display anywhere before, and if it didn't, it should.
As a sidenote: I've only ever seen this activate for friend requests, so perhaps "updates" is not the best name. If it is also intended to notify for blog posts, and other such general news, then leave it as-is.
