I have seen many different start up and crash topics, but I don't know if there is one covering my problem.

I have installed ME2 on my laptop. When I press the PLAY button on ME2 Launcher nothing happens. I tried to run MassEffect2.exe (v1.00) from the system tray (as administrator too) with the same result. There is no error or crash. MassEfect2.exe will just not start (I also checked the task manager).

My system configuration is:

Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU     T9400  @ 2.53GHz
Physical Memory: 2,99 GB
Graphics Cars: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (512MB)
OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Service Pack 2 (6.0.6002)
DirectX: DirectX 10.0

Any suggestions?

Does it say anything in the vista event viewer?

Did you install it as administrator?

Run MassEffect2Config.exe in \\Binaries\\ folder as admin first.

Tried the MassEffect2.exe as admin in the \\Binaries\\ folder?

Right click on the exe's go into compatibility tab and check run as admin.

Vista Event Viewer has no entry about an error with MassEffect2.exe

I installed it as administrator (I am logged as administrator).

I ran first MassEffect2Config.exe in \\\\Binaries\\\\ folder as admin. Then ran MassEffect2.exe as admin in the \\\\Binaries\\\\ folder

No change :(

I'm having the same problem : installation going fine, launch bar as well but then as soon as I press play, the game starts loading but then it shuts down and it says: "Mass effect 2 has stopped working" (windows is checking for a solution to the problem).

I've tried running it as an admin, and reinstalling the game a few times but nothing has changed.

My problem is that it doesn't start at all. No crash, no error message.

What happens when you completely shut down Vista's interference with user activity?  I forget its name, I refused to ever buy a copy of it (did run the two public Betas, hated it).

Look up how to run a Clean Boot procedure (at Microsoft); print the page(s) out.  Disable the internet connection, because the AV, anti-adware, and Firewall are all off.  Turn of whatever that stupid interence stuff is (I think I would normally be able to name it off the top of my head whether I ever used Vista or not, but I need to get lunch, and to take a break -- I'm getting more foggy mentally than normal), and try again.

It's the UAC:  www.vistaclues.com/always-run-an-application-as-an-administrator/

Ok i find solution. You only need to make full update your OS and after that game working fine. First you need Net. Frameworks 3,5 etc.

Check your Vista DEP

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Data Execution Prevention

Make sure its for only windows essential services/etc, (top option).

I don't know which one is the solution, but I managed to start the game doing the following:

I ran windows update (although no update was neccessary). There were several optional updates. I installed them.

Uninstalled ME2.

Reinstalled ME2 the following way: I took the images of the two DVDs. Saved them as .iso files. Used deamon tools to mount the images. Just created one virtual drive and mounted DVDs one after another (I read somewhere in the forums that using multiple drives causes problems).

Finished the install. I put in the first DVD.

Game started working.
