I've searched far and wide for an answer to this, and haven't found anything yet, so I hope someone here can help.

I recently introduced a friend to ME1&2, and he ordered them both after a few hours funtime on my computer. He's run through them both a few times after getting them, but one problem continues to pop up in ME1 for him; the weapons will all overheat, and not cool down at all. Waiting a minute doesn't work, waiting half an hour doesn't, either.

I've checked around the interwebz, but no where have I found a solution to this yet. Ideas, anyone?

This happens only on pirated versions of ME1. It's part of the copy protection.

Eh, no it doesn't. He's on a very much newly installed, newly purchased version. With registered CD key. So no, it doesn't only happen to pirated versions.

This happend to me too, with an original PC copy.

Is a problem with one of the archivements. I solved it deleting the file where they were saved (maybe "Profile.MassEffectProfile" in the save directory, but not sure now) and then used the console to recover my archivements. This way no more bug.

Well, it appears that installing BDTS with the 1.02 patch again, has solved the problem for now. He had a brief problem with an extremely loud ringing noise for about half an hour after, though. Weird stuff, but it seems to be working right for now.

Thanks for the tip though, CondeDrako.

I too suffer from this and have searched around for answers. As stated, this is not an issue relating to pirated software, as it occurs on legitimate copies as well. Someone tracked the bug down to the "Geth Hunter" and/ or "Dog of War" achievements. Thus far the only "solution" would seem to be that one resets their profile.

Admittedly this does not seem that much of a solution, so saving and reloading is the suggested workaround. Although as this issue only surfaces during combat, that makes it tad more than just a nuisance...

@CondeDrako

Could you please post instructions for rewarding achievements through the console? I would like to try if it really eliminates the issue...

It's a very known bug and isn't a pirate exclusive.

Reset the profile deleting the "Profile.MassEffectProfile" file in your save directory (make a backup for security)

Then activate the console following these steps:

Cheat Codes
Locate and open the BIOInput.ini file in your My Documents\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Bioware\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Mass Effect\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Config folder using Notepad. Locate the [Engine.Console] section and add the following line under it:
ConsoleKey=Tilde
Now, while playing, press the [Tilde] (~) key to bring up the console and type any of the following cheat codes. Note: The game may say that it's been compromised and to reinstall. Simply press OK and re-launch the game.

To re-enable your archivements open the console in-game and write:

UnlockAchievement #  (for example unlockarchivement 1 )
1 Medal of Honor Achievement
2 Medal of Heroism Achievement
3 Distinguished Service Medal Achievement
4 Council Legion of Merit Achievement

This issue has crippled my ability to play. I go into battle, any battle, and after firing 2 shots I get a perma-overload. Same for my team. (No, I'm not using exploding rounds! heh)

I was really hoping there would be a true fix/patch out by now so I'd not have to use the console.

I'm scared of it being logged and flagging my profile a 'cheater' or something. ;P

I can't understand why such crippling bug has been left for so long!

Yes, deleting my profile helps, but I don't want to have to use the console and I don't want to lose my achievements.

OK. I tried this, and it doesn't work. I'd just re-install if I could, but I bought it via download from a gaming site and after I installed, my raid 0 array died. Fortunately, I had backed up the game, but NOT the download file. Sigh....

Is this something that will ever be fixed? I wonder, as the game is now rather old, and doubtless EA has little interest in it anymore. I sure would appreciate a fix, though.
