No new romances?

Depends how they handle them, as long as the enemies scale with the levels it should not be a problem. MMO's certainly seem to get away with levels way above level 30.Curlain wrote...
In a further expansion, possible, but the levels we reach by the end of Awakening (around 30 something I think) would still be an issue.
Considering the amount of spells/abilities, well they would probably have start implementing spell levels so you can upgrade spells when you level (and all the spells you have could be lvl 1).
I agree, for me this became important while playing as well, especially after the Morrigan ending. Its quite an impressive feat that my character will be able to pull himself away from tracking down Morrigan to save Ferelden once again.shedevil3001 wrote...
i certainly hope so because that was the main appeal of this game for me that and the choices i made i felt like part of the game as i played through it to make it lack the things that draw you in is insane like the dead warden thing i mean if they want to do that at least back it up with a feesable explanation

Concerning levels.. You could end ME1 at level 60 with a double play through. I do not think levels are an issue... At least, it would not make any sense. Also the blight adventure was based around a year of adventuring. that is not so long. this could easily be a continuing story.
I was about to say this, its not a D&D ruleset. Only Bioware know how many levels (if any cap at all).
The scaling system provides the means to keep the challenge going. Ignoring expansions like the Awakening is another option as max mentioned.
You could even play the same character yet lose all levels back to one.. still keeping with the story. Never been done but that doesnt mean it couldnt work too.

exactly what irritates me the most is this game when they advertized it was supposedly all about choices and there consequenses and the same with any future expansion so to undo decions with no feesible explanation is a contradiction of everything this game is supposed to be
I said this several times in other topics... IGN's interwiev when they announced the xpac brought most of us on a wrong way and generated many expectations that now were disappointed... This was in my opinion the worst mistake...

Well... I am not one to advocate EA's behavior. However.... Mass Effect 3 is said to continue your choices from ME 1 as well as 2.. So it is not entirely bagged yet. Duncan said it best "You'll See..............."

The problem is that they're not very clear about Dragon Age 2, which is partly understandable because it is still in early development. If we knew that DA2 would continue where we left off then this expansion would be what it feels like, a detour for the core story and then this choice would make sense to us as well.Liso66 wrote...
They will toss us a bone to remind us.. I do not think that is the core issue really. I believe imo this is an expansion. Not a DLC. The fact they have taken out romances, DLC items etc.. People are feeling cheated and short changed. A lot of players were under the assumption that our endings truly meant something when it came to the expansion coming out..
Between the loss of items that we all paid for, the dynamics of game play, it all feels like long'ish DLC covert mission, rather than expansion..
I agree with you that I also expected a while back that the expansion would pick up where we left off. The endings of Origins are way too open to just consider it finished.
It would again make sense to have a story detached mostly from the core story as an expansion if you plan to continue the main story in a sequel, since not everyone will play the expansions... Unfortunately I also don't know what they're planning, but I do hope they're going to continue the core story with OUR ORIGINS CHARACTER and hopefully at least the romances as well in DA 2.
I DO know there will be a huge rise in virtual suicides by archdemon slaying without the safety net of a ritual if Morrigan doesn't come back as a romance in some sequel, so I kinda hope that scares them enough to make her and all the other romances return in a sequel!
@Bratt1204: The way David Gaider stated his comment on the romances I believe Alistair will react to you in a way fitting to your status with him, so if you romanced him he should be very friendly with you. However besides the interpretation of Gaiders words I don't have any evidence for that.
EDIT: As long as enough people ask for the old romances to return in a sequel then we might achieve something. Someone stated the customer wasn't always right and that is true of course, otherwise we would be getting everything for free by now. A large enough group of customers however can bring down the house.

Now if only it added things like the NWN2 expansions did for the OC like new classes, etc. I think it would be really adding to the replayability of the whole game as well as giving a new story, and would really be worth the money.
I don't think it does that though I think it's just a new story. That's not bad though as long as the story is really good. Sure I'm sad that I won't be seeing my favorite characters again, but if they can make me care about the new ones it won't be -horrible- even if it will still be a bit disappointing.

I agree. I am also hoping DA2 is our shining light. I will be playing the expansion. I can not resist to be honest.. hehe I do understand why everyone assumed much from this though. I kind of did also. I did tell my bf that i feared all this when Awakenings first was announced. My fears just came true and although i am unhappy about some aspects.. I was ready for them.

Are you sure? I think if they told to me... "Hey.. Don't worry... Your story is going to continue in a sequel we are developing.. While you wait for this you may have some fun playing this new extemporaneus adventure..just as an aperitif"... well I can say that if we heard something like this we would be very happy to buy their xpac.
But for now, the truth is that most of us are disappointed, and we are not able to know if we will be more or less disappointed in future...

They wont confirm information on future products. Wait and see is only option here. Abit like Oghren being the returning companion, the FAQ still doesnt make that very clear but we do know 99.9% that it is.

I've seen the plans for the next year and more. Of course, I can't reveal anything yet (although if I could, I think people in certain other threads would be very happy), but we'll keep you busy way past March.
This was posted 6 days ago by a dev on DLC/expansions.. not sequels tho.

It's much easier to wait for something that you hope would be good, instead of waiting for something you know is going to be **** but are going to buy it anyways.

Even if they put Sienna Miller in the trailer I believe that people's disagreement won't decrease anyway...

I been away, and haven't had a chance to read every single thread. It says on the website because the the new threat is so great, that the storyline is more focused on that and you have No options for a romance..
Wasn't the Blight. a huge threat? I mean you had a massive army of darkspawn lead by a huge dragon, yet we still had time to solve everyones problems and bed our romance. But this time, there is no time?
Allow me to translate what BioWare was saying: "We're Lazy, Sorry!"
Honestly, this is bullshit, our romance option from the first game isn't in Awakening, and there' no new romances. BioWare, you're losing my respect. Next you're going to tell us there's no new armor/weapon models because this new threat is SO great that all the blacksmiths in Fereldin have stopped working and joined the army. Hrm, how else can this be applied?
Like I said, BioWare lost my respect with Dragon Age: Origins, fortunatly they regained it with Mass Effect 2, I wonder what happens with Awakening. From what I can see so far, they're going to lose a devout fan if they keep this nonsense up.
P.S. I think a whole freakin' Darkspawn Horde is more of a threat than a Darkspawn that talks...

More to the point, I think most of us came into it expecting something like BG2's expansion, which not only continued existing romances but developed them further.KumoriOokami wrote...
I think the main problem is that they named it an -expansion- so people are expecting additional content for the original campaign or a direct continuation. I think that this is more similar to the additional campaigns for NWN2 than an expansion, where even though you -can- carry over your original character it takes you to a completely new setting.
The no new romances thing is just weird, seems like it's shafting new Orlesian characters for no actual reason...
