i wonder if by other cameo's they mean other lesser known npc's like oh earl of redcliff, behlen or harrowmont or even jowan and shianna (sp?) from the alienage that would be unexpected but interesting

sorry bout the two seperate posts i'm still learning how to use the forum til yesterday i've never used any forums and what i mean is i've read the frequently asked questions a few times and still get the same answer as it says it so i got the impression they would be companions from what it says which if its not the case then again dissapointing but what can i do

No prob, everyones new at somepoint. U got any questions feel free to ask.

Companions who have multiple story paths in bioware games are unlikey to return. All the companions listed in the FAQ (save Oghren) can just as easily die as meet other fates and destinies. Their storys can branch in so many diffrent directions it becomes to much for the devs to balance, and thats why you'll most likley not see Alistair, Leliana, Wynee, Loghain, Zevran, Sten, or Shale return in any other form save for cameos. Just as long as the cameo's are done right, it can still feel natural and work, and give you closer in a form.

Morrigan and Oghren have more set storylines. Morrigan will almost certainly be a big part of some future dragon age title, and Oghren... well... thats obvious isn't it?

PS- It could be that Oghren was expected to return in the expansion, that it was part of the grand plan. In which case that would explain his "shallowness." In a since Oghren IS returning because he didn't have much going on character wise, nows bioware's chance to remedy that.

I think when you log in to your ea account in the game, some of your characters are uploaded to your profile (and you can then make on of their portraits as your avatar on your profile pages) though it's not perfect, it only uploaded my first characters and seems to very so often either update a current character's status or upload a new one.  At least that's my experience from when I've viewed my profile page :)

yeah you know a strong arguement could be made that the three least likable characters in dragon age rorigns are returning - I mean first we fidn out the the "beloved favorite" is Oghren but wait theres more - loghain (boring and more than liekley dead in most play throughs) and wynne who when playing as a complete boy scout I still fnd the least liakble character in the game - This tells me that if nothing else bioware clearly does not have a pulse on who fans really like or dislike

Also, with the PC version, you can hack your save and change the in game portrait with your own and will get a custom portrait uploaded instead. Like Boo here! :D

For truth in advertising they should have said an "old, ugly, smelly favorite."

Do you think Alistair will be as important as he was in Origins? With appearances and such..

Oghren wasn't my FAVORITE but i'd rather have him back then say, Dog, if i could only choose one.

Still doesn't explain why Dog isn't returning, though.

Actually, if you're trying to incorporate the player's decisions from Origins, Oghren is probably one of the most likely companions to still be alive and available.

-Alistair may be dead, dead drunk, or busy as king.
-Morrigan left, with or without the dark ritual.
-Wynne had a couple of chances to die. Otherwise, she's still at death's door.
-Shale is DLC, so wouldn't have even been in some people's games.
-Sten returned to the Qun.
-Zevran could have died when you met him, could have betrayed you to rejoin the crows, or could have left after defeating the crows.

I think the "old favorite" had to be either Oghren, Leliana, or Dog to make sense with the highest percentage of possible endings. If it had been Leliana, it would have opened another can of worms due to the romance angle. I can't think of a good reason not to bring Dog back, but I'm sure there would have been people unhappy with that too.

I think Dog would have generated the least discontent...but then again I could be wrong about that lol.

I honestly don't think that what we like or dislike was taken into consideration in any way, shape or form.   That "old returning favorite" was predetermined..and implemented probably long before we were aware there was an expansion coming out.

Fera, you pretty much nailed it ^_^

The plot is actually the first part of a game's development, so sometime ago, when  bio mentioned that would have a expansion, they pretty much had the story decided, and i believe the "old favorite" decision was already made. Same reason as to why i don't post on the "support squad member for ME3" threads on the Mass effect forums. Mass Effect 3 is already on development, wich means the squad members are already decided, same as Dragon Age 2. :D

Oghren is the only party member that cannot be killed or skipped (besides Morrigan, but she leaves). Therefore, he is the only logical choice as the returning character.

You know..that makes perfect sense..just wish that was clear to us before.  heh

And...seems to me it was mentioned that DA:2 was in developpment..( don't remember where I read that)   so we don't really have any influence, imput, choices on any of that.

Okay I'll stop wishing and hoping for things.....its just all going to be plunked in our laps...like it or lump when the time comes.

Oghren grew on me - Sten, I loathed - I think because he was so pompous about *my* ability as a warrior, when he never did a thing himself. Of course, that's my fault for not including him - but! He had a beefy face and reminded me of a bus driver I used to hate with seething fury - I'd let him out of the cage, but he wasn't spending 2 minutes at my side.

I think it had to be a non-romance character, and one that could be a tank. That basically narrowed it down to those 2 - and I'd enjoy writing Oghren more, myself.
