I'm starting a new ME2 game with a male character. My only real experience is with the vanguard class. This time I either want to play an Adept or a Sentinel. Which class should I pick? I like the Adept's diverse biotic abilities, but I also like the Sentinel's balance, and can tell that they are a force to be reckoned with at higher levels. Thoughts?

If u r used to the speed of the vanguard...then you might have a hard time adjusting to the adept or sentinels...cause they are power centric classes. You have to hide behind cover a lot more to throw your powers.
I had this experience. I turn from vanguard to adept then sentinel, but now back to vanguard.
So glad I done it.
Enough of my own rantings. To answer your question, if you are set to choose between adepts and sentinels...then you might want to take adepts first if you are more aggressive style (switching from vanguard). Adepts have throw, shockwave, warp (can use on barriers also), singularity which are decent damaging powers, coupled with crowd control powers like pull, well...singularity. Heavy singularity is actually much more useful than most will think because it can slow down larger enemies. (does not include colossus and heavy mechs, but still eats at the barriers)
If you are now changing to a passive, supportive role for your team, then pick the sentinel. It has warp and overload, 2 best powers to bring down any barriers. Cryo + throw is a decent combo but you can only shatter with throw if the enemy is nearing death. I found most of the time I threw the enemy to god knows where. I can't advertise Tech Armor cause it's like barrier and geth shield boost...with a blast. At higher difficulties...the blast can't save you most of the time, with those enemies so close. But it does the decent job of keeping you alive longer.

Sentinel is the opposite of Vanguard. Sentinel is a more defensive played class. Tech Armor to stay alive and Warp&Overload to do damage. Get Sniper Rifle training to use the Viper and you're set. I breezed through Veteran. Even the hordes of Husks weren't able to kill me.

What difficulty do you intend to play on? That will probably be the greatest factor in overall enjoyment.
If you're on easy through vet, adept will be fine. But Sentinel will probably pull ahead on hardcore and insanity, since all the adept does on those difficulties is hide in cover and spam warp like an idiot.

The way I play Sentinel (with maxed defensive abilities and recharge rate) is actually closer to how I play Vanguard than any other class. Involves a lot of wandering into people's faces with a shotgun and freezing/throwing them. The main reason I chose to play this way, though, is that I had just been playing Adept, and Sentinel and Adept play very similarly otherwise: Hide behind cover, shoot arcing powers, repeat until enemies dead. Didn't seem worth having tech armor as a bonus power unless I was gonna get it blown off in close proximity.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing Adept, but if I'm going to just lob powers from the far side of a crate, I'd rather lob Singularity and Warp for some spectacular area-of-effect explosions.

Well, the main reason I ask, is because I'm a hardcore SWeek (Star Wars Geek for those of you on here who actually AREN'T Star Wars geeks, which I would imagine you're in the minority), and my Sentinel is named Jagged Fel, and my Adept is named Exar Kun. Exar Kun being a Sith Lord, I wanted him to have more of a Force-related background, whereas Jagged Fel is more technically-oriented, but also combat-oriented. I have decided to go with the Sentinel unless someone has a better suggestion. I was considering Infiltrator but I simply don't have the patience to snipe in this game like I did in Splinter Cell and Syphon Filter.

I've gone and decided on the Sentinel because of the balance. I've probably posted this in another forum, but I would like to know the following: the female character I've run through three playthroughs of ME1 is only level 59, and I've gone quite far in ME2 with her as well. However, I want to know if there is ANY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE whether I started the game with her at level 59 or whether I should purchase and run through the DLCs to try and get her up to 60 IF IT WILL IMPROVE THE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE with ME2, again, SIGNIFCANTLY. If not I'm not gonna bother. Sure I missed the achievement, but I don't really care about that. I think I'm gonna hold off on continuing her career until I get thorough input. Sigh. If I could only bring the kind of obsessive care and attention I give to these damn games, especially Oblivion, Fallout 3, the Mass Effects, Dragon Age, and NWN2, to real life, I might actually accomplish something with myself. Sure I was finally able to get a nice house, and the wife and dog are happy, but I could alwasys accomplish more, I suppose. Oh well. Thanks for your great input playas!
