Have the reapers bestowed the ultimate tribute to mankind?

My comments will spoil the ending revelation.

Initially I was horrified and angered by the goal of the collectors; few things seem more tragic and pointless than being liquified into organic gelatin. Yet after destroying the larval reaper form, I realized the honor they have bestowed upon us. The human reaper seems to show that we have been chosen to live amongst the gods of this galaxy, reigning forever in the highest possible state of organic and technological evolution. In under a century, mankind quickly adapted to becoming a space-faring species, eventually securing the political and military strength of the entire galaxy. If the reapers harvest the galaxy of resources every cycle of destruction, then it appears the greatest resource that has developed in this time is humanity itself. Perhaps we need not look upon them as reapers but as angels, offering us space in heaven as a singularity where all souls find peace as one, immortal form. This may be our judgement day, the culmination of every accomplishment realized by our people. Is it possible that the old machines bring not destruction but enlightenment? By showing ourselves to be stronger than sovereign, have we been chosen to take his place?

Consider that death is a guarantee for all humans, save for one. We may degrade into compost at the end of our lives, or transition now into eternity. And if our greater form retains the strengths of our people, we may ascend the ranks of reaper politics and strength as well, though they may be needless in the perspective of eternity.

That certainly may be how some see it. Sovereign didn't. Harbinger did. When he took command and viewed the stasis colonists, he spoke how they were being ascended. So, he either really thought that or was trying to make the collectors think that. Why he should care what the collectors think, though, I have no idea.

Personally, tribute or not.. ultimate destiny or not, I prefer the ability to make the decision for myself. Is it really such an ascension if we have no say in the matter.

And, if we are able to beat them, thus preventing this wondrous honor, are they really a better destiny than what we have today? Is ascension really good?

That's great, enjoy being a single consciousnes in a cacophony of bodiless voices, inhabiting a genocidal Lovecraftian horror. I'd prefer to retain my free will and die of old age, personally.

Sure if you'd rather be a grey goo to be used as construction material to some ship than a person, go ahead...

Somehow a mint that wants to become a coat comes to mind...

Once I was 'one.' Now I am 'one,' but it is a smaller, louder 'one.'

You fail to see the point.

Instead of wiping out humanity in one swift strike and thus losing everything we had humans were being made into a Reaper. Maybe the Reaper would no longer think like a human but our history, culture and everything else would live on through this god?

Yes, but so what? It wouldn't help us. It would help the Reapers. They're like parasites.

Cool story, bro. I bet they worship this "gospel" while being turned into husks. Because only the weak are turned into husks. The strong are turned into the human-reaper goo, without their consent. Because the strong will never accept that. Given a choice, they will fight for their own future and not some unwelcome "acsention" bestowed on us by some alien race. No thank you. I'd rather die fighting than die while being liquified into the form of the reaper raw material. this is my human history, culture and nature.

Do you understand, that Harbinger doesn't admire Humans? It despises them just like every other race. "Your form is fragile", it says. It only considers humans as suitable raw material for one of its own kind. This is not exacly the salvation I'd appreciate.

Oh, and just you know, if Humanity is destined and badass enough to extinguish all other the sentient life in the Galaxy, it would prefer to pull it off of its own will, and make sure the Reapers are the first species to get reaped by us.

Being made into a reaper is a fate worse than genocide imo. This is a dubious honor the reapers grant us, I say they can go to hell. I would rather die than become part of a collective of genocidal and monstorous beings, no matter how powerful and "immortal" they may be.

If Hell exists, it must be being a reaper.

Please tell me that this is satire of religious fanaticism. It's just insane logic either way.

I would like to express my feelings on this matter with a quote from Bill Pullman:

In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

SUPERSTAR!!!!!!!

You are correct and you are looking at it from the reapers standpoint... from mankinds point of view... you are killing us, youa re stripping us of our individuality and our freedom... and that will not be tolerated

Humanity becoming a human Reaper would ALMOST be worth it just to show up on the Turian Councillor's doorstep and watch him crap himself.

Human Reaper: Ah, yes. "Me".

Well said! The Reapers are unncecessary, Humanity is capable of ascending all by itself.

I think that the reapers do think that what they where doing was good for us and them. Still I think that the choice should be ours not forced on us. We really don't like others forcing their will on us. In ME1 I think after the thorian when you take to the asarie said human minds are the most difficult to merge with.

On the other hand I was looking at it from the piont of the reapers and asked why. why would the reaper do what they are; risking death just to harvest some organic life doesn't seem like a good idea. So we know they need the organic life to make more of themselves but why let them run rampent why not just make giant farms and have the inhabitans give you sacrafices. They could seed the entier galaxy with what they need.

Now that would take time and resources they may not be able to spare if they where doing something large scale like fighting an intergalactic war and our little galacy is nothing more then a boot camp for new reaper soilders.

That is just a thought I had; I have no proof but it makes more sence then they just do.

I totally agree I really hate that guy he is just so self righteous dismissing anything that does not fit in his personal world view.
