Shredder Ammo, useless?

Now I am not talking about Thane using it. That seems like a regular damage boost for him... But for the player isn't it completely pointless to take this over any other ammo?

By the time they dropped to health they die quickly anyway... And hell, Armor-piercing does more damage. Taken from the Wikia Armor-Piercing does 70% extra damage against armor AND health. Shredder ammo only does 60% against health only. (Level 4 Tungsten and Improved Shredder Ammo).

Just wondering if anyone knows of a reason to get it.

Improved version does +80% damage to health, but still, it is pretty much useless.

Aha. Seems the wikia is wrong in that then... found it a bit odd that it even does less against health... But even then it sounds pathetic in comparison.

Think I'll just get Energy Drain like I normally do, Cryo does most jobs just fine for me anyway.

I always assumed it does extra damage to organic's defenses as well. I was tearing through Collecter barriers with squad shredder about as quickly as with squad warp.

That was with a Soldier though, sometimes it's hard to tell when you're killing things that quickly.

Well, I was testing Warp/Tungsten/Inferno Ammo and the difference is too small to even bother taking ammo as a bonus power (for Vanguard).

Definitely, same for a Soldier and on classes that don't have a natural ammo power, I'd rather just use squad ammo.

I wish it would be changed to do that damage to organic armor too, as per description.

Not too bad for Sentinel...but I rather have something else.

I don't use this often but I do use it on the Suicide Mission since the Collector's are organics.

I also was under the impression that it does bonus damage to Organic as a whole, inculding defenses. Is that false?

I can just say that my Thane with fully evolved Shredder Ammo (not squad) completely ripped Collectors apart in the final mission(s). Completely. Ripped. Apart.

Some clarification would be nice. Does this only increase damage to organic health, or does it increase damage to organics as a whole, including their armor, barriers, etc.?

Skill description is pretty clear about that, and it says + x% health damage only. Nothing about armor.

it is tied with fortitude as being the worst bonus power in game. no debate.

as for thane kicking arse, thats mainly due to his passive dmg boost skill, i think it gets to 50% like zaeeds?

Well, for classes that can't get their own ammo power, it's the best choice of the three bonus powers against shielded organics. >.> And actually, it's better than disruptor ammo for pure damage against them. But any class without ammo powers has something better to do than shoot unshielded organics (cryoblast or pull).

classes without ammo power are sentinel and adept. adept, if getting an ammo power, should always get warp because they should be shooting something that is affected by singularity, and once down to health he will either be a warp explosion or a pull/throw instagib. sentinel i can sorta see it being useful, but between cd's while defences are up and you're shooting it has no effect, and i'd think ap ammo (its only 10% less dmg on health) is more widely useful, along with warp ammo.

addendum: actually, now i think about it, devs have said that any power stated to be effective against something is *2, so does shredder ammo actually do 160% bonus dmg to health??? if it does then it is obviously much more powerful than first suspected and of much use for the defence stripping sentinel. this must be investigated!
