I just finished my archer play through...

This next time around I wanted to play a sword and shield character without actually being a tank (I realise this won't be the most effective build for damage, but it does come with a fair bit of knock downs and stuns as well)! :o

What I was wondering was, if you where going to try this; what would you use? I was hoping to stay away from massive armor as I like to look of medium and heavy armor better.

I was also thinking the marics sword and shield (ostagar dlc) would be best since it gives a bonus to damage and such but I wasn't sure, Still fairly new to this game.

Trick is more strength, less dex.

More strength and more willpower. Sword and Shield's active skills are its main source of DPS.

You can go high dex and equip a dagger. With three runes, flaming weapon, and haste from a mage, your attack speed is respectable.

For some reason I just can not equip a dagger with a warrior.  Powergaming or not.  LOL, here is Conan the Barbarian.  Behold his fearsome Sword, no I mean dagger.  Just can not do it.

But a SS with high strength and Berserk is quite effective.  Berserk adds damage to your regular attacks and shield attacks.

If so, will enchanting a weapon with damage runes do much or anything? I notice my attack skills won't proc the damage runes :(

and if you guys didn't wana use massive armor, what else would you look for in game? I know of evons the great mail or some such, but on my last playthrough I saw the price that might be out of the question. xD

Its because your special attacks use a shield. Only strength increases the damage done by these attacks, along with Shield Mastery. You'll notice your shields also have a strength modifier.

I haven't made a dagger build so I can't say which is better.

There's Wade's, and the Armor of Diligence from the sacred urn. I guess if you want something early on you could use the armor Varathorn gives you for giving him ironbark, or the Elven Armor. Both can be found in the elf treaty quest.

I know where most of the elven set is, but where are the boots located? if you don't mind.

7 characters - 7 times not there where they should be.

Here is a fix: http://dragonagenexu...file.php?id=238

Actually, it's not just that shields don't have runes, it's that no special attacks get rune damage added in. Bug or feature, that's how it is.

Kinda wondering how blood thirst will handle with precise strike(the crit and atk rating buff) with blood thirst, it it would even out my attack speed... or just not stack :/

Oak Tree Leaf, if you need some money, and you probably already know this, but go here: http://dragonage.wik...ey_Making_Guide and read the blurb on crafting Potent Lyrium Pots, you can also make profits doing the same with Greater and Normal Lyrium Pots too.

I discovered in a play through yesterday, that the girl that wants traps in Lothering, (I accidently clicked on her while selecting one of my npc's and she asked me if I had the traps yet-again) you can craft a set of 3 spring traps and sell them to her repeatedly for 50 silver a set of 3. Nice way to make you a few gold early on.

The game says "dagger" but what I see looks a lot more like a "shortsword" ... THOSE have a long and well established warrior tradition behind them.  Posted Image

I usually imagine myself as somewhat like a roman soldier with shortsword and shield.  All the better for that close quarters fighting.

Hmm didn't know about this, but is just that the lyrium pots sell for more then it takes to make them? :o

No not just that they sell for more (which they do) but sell them to the dwarf merchant in Denermin, he pays alot more.  The merchant (the crazy one I believe) in Orzammar does the same thing, but just these two.  It's in the Wikia post.

They stack, and blood thirst overpowers precise striking's attack speed penalty, so you'll still be faster than default.

The best part is you get the crit from both which is over 20% bonus crit total towards endgame.

I wouldn't equip a dagger with a warrior. Because you can't do it i think. And a dagger is way to bad for a warrior!

Use the defense of S&S to your advantage and use abilities like Blood Thirst, Aura of Pain and Blood Frenzy. With high defense, you can stay somewhat "safe" while you're on low HP. With Berserk and BF running you'll get somewhere between 8 - 17 damage depending on HP. Haste + Blood Thirst make for attack speed. Also, consider putting one point in Poison-Making, allowing you to use Quiet Death poison. I would put dex to 22 + 4 from fade to get Shield Mastery and all the rest in str.
