I like Mass Effect 2. I'm not starting this thread to say "make ME3 more like ME1!" because I find those threads kind of pointless. I'm making this thread so we can have a moment of nostalgia for that which we miss. So, without further ado:

DAMPING

Every once in a while, I find myself wishing I still had access to Damping.
No, seriously.
Engineers and Infiltrators are pretty powerful classes now thanks to the addition of Incinerate, which tears through the most annoying kind of defense and essentially "stuns" organics the way Damping once did. There was something interesting and fun, though, about stunning enemies and cutting off their ability to use biotics/tech attacks while screaming "I will destroy you!"

SABOTAGE
From a game design and narrative standpoint, the distinction between Sabotage and Overload always seemed weird to me, so I think it was a good idea that the weapon overheating power of Sabotage was rolled up into Overload. I have yet to actually see it work properly on my own characters, though -- generally I overload somebody and they just keep shooting me -- so I wish that there were still a power that worked as effectively to force enemies to stop shooting or switch their guns.

CARNAGE
I enjoy using the Scimitar on my Vanguard and my Sentinel, but otherwise, the reliance on cover and need to strip multiple defenses in ME2 makes it very hard to ever use a shotgun effectively. Of course, in ME1, even if you never used a shotgun normally during battle, you could always whip it out to pop off a Carnage, no matter what your class. Concussive Shot is a brilliant replacement for it, and I definitely do not miss the other dull weapon powers (Marksman, Overkill, Assassinate, IIRC), but I do miss that satisfying feeling of pulling out a shotgun just to blast someone from across the room. I even built an entire character in ME1 entirely around getting one-hit Carnage kills on higher difficulty levels ... but did not bother importing her, as she just wouldn't work in ME2.

The weapon portion of overload only works on synthetics.

I don't get it why they removed Sabotage? It was one of the most useful Infiltrator skill.

Because of Thermal Clips. Sabotage isn't particularly useful if the enemy simply pops in another heat sink (like you should have been able to do in ME1, especially since Sabotage was undodgeable)

Sabotage is basically disruptor ammo. It will overload their weapons.

Krogan enemies, some seem to blast off carnage.

Thermal clips is probably the thing I wouldn't want in ME1 that exists in ME2, at least not without an option for me to have normal gun cool-down.

For powers, i'd probably say Carnage, as I used to use it with Wrex all the time.

This isn't about TCs. The point was that you had to wait 10 seconds for your weapon to start cooling down after you got hit with Sabotage. Now it would be useless, since you don't have to wait for the cooldown.

And i'm not disputing that, just that you implied that clips should have been in ME1, in my opinion a bad thing.

Even if it just immediately forced them to eject the clip and reload, it would be pretty cool to have as an effect on Overload. Considering that Incinerate damages armor, goes around corners, AND stuns organics, I don't think that would make Overload overpowered at all.

Also, good call on Charm and Intimidate. I really, really miss being able to max out Intimidate on a mostly-paragon Shepard. It made the final confrontation with Saren much more interesting for me (a one-two punch between a Charm dialog option and an Intimidate option, finishing with a bang).

They do.

Except instead of throwing a small ball of mass at the enemy, in ME2, they throw themselves.

Having recently done a repeat of ME1, I'm going to go with Damping as a power that I miss. I loved shutting down the Engineers and Biotics.

pull is better for vangaurds than throw. pull them, wait 3 seconds, then charge for that extra combo damage. in this sense pull is much better than throw for vanguards. pull also brings them closer to you for shotgun facials.

Definitely Shield Boost or Carnage. Damping was also great, and would have been a very useful skill in ME2.

Adrenaline rush use to reset your abilities right? That was so cool for soldiers. With the global cool down now, combat seems less ...well less.
