So I just imported a Spacer War Hero save the I downloaded and I got an e-mail from my mom... I played ME2 through twice with my own spacer war hero and I never got an e-mail, I'm assuming I missed a chance to talk with her in the first game?
Shep has a mom?

In wards/presidium tunnel there is a bum who claim's to know your mother, if you talk to him, you get quest to confirm his background from your mother, and can call her from Normandy.

Not sure, but I think he pops up after you become spectre or later, I think he wouldn't know you otherwise well enough by appearance to call your name.

It unlocks when you revisit the Citadel for the first time.

he pops up after your first story mission. He's really easy to miss he's in the Wards Access tunnel (between the elevators that lead from the Presidium next to the Citadel Tower and the Wards next to Flux)
