I know that Kim or anyone from BioWare are probably no longer reading this old thread but I just bought a USB stick in order to backup my saves, my xbox having recently suffered from theRRoD. Fortunately my HDD is still fine but it is still over 3 years old and with the xbox's history of technical problems I do often worry that it might fail and I will lose over 120 hours of play time.

I was pretty shocked and angry to find that I couldn't copy my saves over to my new usb stick, as the best feature of the ME series is the character continuation and as the trilogy spans over 4 years, in which time a lot of consoles will inevitably fail, it seems crazy to me that backing up is not an option.

I understand the limitations that BioWare has in changing how the system works and don't expect them to change it. I would, however, suggest that they strongly reconsider their design choices in ME3.

The main thing I wanted to say is this: I know that if I lose my saved games then I would, in all likelihood, play through both ME 1 + 2 again before ME3 comes out because having a personal playthrough that is unique to you is what makes this series so special.

I think it would be a great idea however, if with the release of ME3 they included a motion comic, exactly like the one that came with the PS3 version of ME3, which would allow people who had lost their saves to tailor their experience of ME3 to how it should have been without having to spend approximately 50 hours playing through 1 and 2 again.

I think that would be the best option.

Thanks for reading :)

OK, I hate to dig up an old thread, but I'm going to. I just got a new hard drive for my 360 because I ran out of space on the old one. Used XPort 360 to move all my content and profiles over and everything is cool except my ME2 saves report as corrupted, as everyone has been saying here. They're still fine on the old drive obviously. In the time since this was posted, has anyone found a way to copy the saves rather than move them? I don't want to be hosed if my hard drive crashes, which happened to my 360 once already. It's kind of weak that you can only have the ME2 save in one location.

If you just got a new HDD, why us xport to move them ?

Why not use the xfer cable that comes with the new HD to copy all from the smaller drive to the bigger one.... Problem solved !!

Because the transfer cable does not solve his problem. The transfer cable accomplishes the same thing as moving the files to a USB drive or memory unit, and then onto the new drive. sc1974 is concerned about possible corruption of saves (a very real possibilty), and wanted to COPY the saves to the new drive, while keeping the old drive intact (probably as a backup). XPort 360 should have done the job. I would advise having XPort360 create a virtual image of the old drive, then use XPort360 to copy the entire directory over to the new drive. The Xbox drive actually has three (or is it four) main directories that act as virtual partitions on the Xbox 360. Each of these has a different function (one of them is used for Xbox backwards compatibility saves and patches for instance). There is a website that actually lists which directory serves which function, but I cannot remember which at the moment. A quick google should reveal the necessary info. The directory in question will list all of the games, and gamesaves in question. They only exist on one directory. That's the one to copy completely over to the new drive. Some of the DLC files will have to be "downloaded" again for some reason probably related to encryption or something, but that can be accessed again through the download history. The gamesaves should all be completely unencrypted, and should work fine. If your ME2 saves do appear as corrupted, after following this advice, try copying the ME2 subdirectory over to the new drive again. I found that some of the files I copied over to my new drive from my image didn't make it over intact the first time I attempted it, and needed to be copied over directory by directory... it was a little bit tedious, but I was able to get all of the information successfully copied.

It has been stated by others more familiar with these things that ME2's saves are copyrighted; so they cannot be copied as we would for any other game. An attempt to do so may end up corrupting the new file.

Late to this thread, but at least there is a reasoning behind this. Sad to see that this is still affecting gamers, even today, even after ME3 came out.

I guess in one hand Bioware learned never to half-assa product. It will be detrimental and cause problems in the long run. Better to take time, and delay something otherwise it could cause many fan hate as we see it in the forums.

I was trying to find ways around this. I saw this post:

"I actually discovered a neat trick. I make a new profile on my memory card that is just like the one on my hard drive and made a save game for it. Now here's the cool thing I've noticed. When you go to load a save game you can switch profiles. When you do, the saves for that profile will pop up for you to see. If you exit out and switch over to the save option, those files will still show so you can save over one of them. So basically, I save my game on the hard drive, then go to load game and switch to the profile on the memory card, then exit out and go to save game to overwrite what's on the memory card, effectly backing up my hard drive save

I can't believe I had to try and "outsmart" the game just to do something as simple as copying save data. Stupid Bioware, is EA corrupting them? Can't even let players copy their damn save data now? Rare pulled this **** with the Viva Pinata games too and it was damn annoying. Who the hell comes up with such a stupid idea? They're the only two companies I know of who impose save game restrictions on their games. Oh wait, the idiots behind Mortal Kombat Dark Alliance did the same thing with that game too I think

Funny thing is, after people made god knows how many posts on the subject on Biowares forums, nobody ever came across this trick"

I still don't get his step by step method. If someone were to elaborate that would be great. Because I am having problems just switching storage devices.
