My work has a liberal internet-use policy, but everything I see is reviewed.

I've now been surprised by an obscene image on Bioware's boards while browsing at work two days in a row. I'm sure the IT guys understand what a grief image is and that I am not actually browsing shock sites at work, but they may have to make a note of it anyway.

Please work a little harder on your registration procedures, or put controls in place for posting images. This sort of thing should not be possible on a well-run board.

For one, I see no reason why someone should be allowed to post image links within a minute of registring.
There must be some way of preventing this without restricting legitimet new users too much.

Edit: or they could disable BBCode for people without registered games?

I vote for this.   :)   We may have to see pictures of butts, but at least they would have paid for it :)

I like the idea of disabling certain privileges for posters who have not registered a game. If they violated the code of conduct on the forums or whatever it is called, they could be banned rather easily. I just ran across a griefing image and I thought it kind of sad that someone would do that.

Make sure you report any obscene images you see directly to one or more of the moderators. The "Report this Post" link doesn't do anything. Chris Priestly and Stanley Woo are probably a good place to start.

After 5 minutes of the "repot link" getting clicked you get an automated response mail.

That's about it

No. I do not expect to ever see any further obscene images. If this stuff going to continue intermittently appearing on the website, I cannot be a part of the response to it because I will simply have to stop using the site.

The mods are deleting his posts as we speak. But it's slow going for some reason...

I've never seen a board with this high of traffic where the moderators can keep up with every thread. In order for them to do something about the images you're talking about someone has to tell them they were posted. So if you see an image you find objectionable send a link to the post to one of the mods, that way they know who is causing trouble and where and do something about it, and start taking corrective action against the people involved.

They may have to limit the ability to post links or images to newly registered accounts. It isnt perfect but it takes a bit of the...temptation... out of it when you have to wait a few weeks to post pictures. Kinda sucks that some people just have to get their lulz at the expense of everyone else.

They have already deleted half his posts.
Probably revoked his posting privileges and are keeping the account around to easier track the rest of the posts that still need to get deleted.
But some of his posts got deleted about half an hour ago and they do not need to manually search for his other posts. They can simply use their mod tools on his profile. So why are thre still posts around?

EDIT: of course this may be just a result of a wonky, silly social site. The mods might have deleted everything and the site just hasn't thought about making them go away.
Just as edits don't seem to appear in posts and new posts, can't be viewed even though the forum index shows they are there.

Then there need to be stricter default restrictions on who can post images -- limit it to people with registered game accounts as others have suggested.

It's not that I'm unwilling to continue to be an active part of the user community. I AM AT WORK. I cannot be seeing this stuff.

Well it seems you didn't get into trouble, right?

But still waiting to see a response from the website team on how they will keep the forum clean and safe for people.

If you see something objectionable in the forums, please message a Moderator directly and provide a link to it so we can investigate and remove it quickly. Grousing about it publicly is no guarantee that the complaint will be seen by someone who can help. Thank you.

That is a really inadequate response, for the reasons I made clear above.

While I am perhaps even more opposed to the IMG tag than you are, I am curious as to what would be an appropriate response. The way I see it this is a problem that can (and should!) be solved in only one way, and I do not mean more moderators. I do not think it is in any way reasonable to demand that BioWare + community moderators are able to keep the fora clinically clean at all times provided they fulfil their function if they come across or are alerted to a rules violation. But then, I do not think BioWare should have made it possible it break that particular rule in the first place.

I agree. That would be an adequate response. I don't expect the moderators to be superhuman, of course, but a large messageboard cannot enable image posting by anybody who just signed up for a free account and expect to remain SFW.

I am not asking the mods to magically know when grief images have been posted and act instantly every single time. That is why I am asking to have the site rules tightened up  -- to make their job easier, in fact.

As it is, I'll simply avoid this site except when posting from home, which is not the end of the world.
