I am having trouble understanding exactly what a level is versus an area.  Being a NWN2 toolset aficionado, there was no "level" per se, and areas could be exterior or interior.  Is a level perhaps a general world map type of object from which a "world map" can be generated?  Or is it a general container into which "areas" can be placed?  If anyone has any insight into this I would greatly appreciate some information.  Thanks.

Levels are the art resources used to make areas. The level is stuff like the ground and buildings, non-interactable things. You use the level to make an area, which includes the interactives, like doors and creatures.

if you've ever played NWN or checked out the editor for NWN2, youd know exactly what it is.

I'm having an issue getting my level to rotate. I can slide from left to right, but I can't seem to move forward back along an area.

3rd mouse button pans...although I'm trying to find the rotate around an axis mode for level editing (ala Electron toolset with the cntrl+rightclick).

In the editor, it's Alt+MMB. Annoying how it's different there than elsewhere in the toolset.

Thx! Lifesaver right there. I was frantically scouring the wiki and coming up short.

In my OP, I did say I was NWN2 toolset user.  In that, the terrain editor worked on an exterior area.  Interior areas used tiles, which I'm thinking are "art resources".  According to the wiki, the level serves as the "non-interactive" backaground.  I'm wondering if you first create the level with the terrain and textures and non-interactive objects such as trees, buildings, etc.  Intuitively, I think you would then create an area of the same size and "superimpose" the area on the level.  The you can put NPCs, placeables, etc. into the area.  I'm so new to this toolset, as I'm sure all but the beta testers are, so I'm still at the base of the learning curve.  I was just hoping for a little insight beyond the wiki to help visualize exactly what I'm doing with the level and area editors.

I don't even know you.....and yet, I would follow you anywhere.

Seriously, thanks for saving my frickin' sanity.

I promise I'm not going to get frustrated and question why they just couldn't leave it the way it was back in NWN2..... they'd have a better chance teaching a monkey to type with boxing gloves than throw all this new stuff at me.
