Microsoft said this about the 0x3B bug check:

Bug Check 0x3B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

The SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION bug check has a value of 0x0000003B. This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.

Parameters

The following parameters are displayed on the blue screen.

Parameter Description

1 The exception that caused the bug check

2 The address of the exception record for the exception that caused the bug check

3 The address of the context record for the exception that caused the bug check

4 0

Cause

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code. (This could also be true for the audio driver as well.)

The ha20x22k.sys module appears to be part of you Audio system. Have you installed the latest Audio driver from Creative? Also ATI just released a new Video driver today. Have you installed the chipset drivers for you motherboard?

The Microsoft support KB also suggested that a memory problem could cause this type of bugcheck also. Memtest86+ is a good memory test program (www.memtest86.org).

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have the latest audio, video and motherboard drivers installed except the todays ATI update.

Also had MemTest running for 2 hours without an error.

In my experience memtest86 usually finds stuff on the first pass if there is anything to find.

Is your BSOD always in the ha20x22k.sys?

Have you tried removing the Creative drivers and re-installing them?

Did this two days ago. Maybe I should look for a full driver cleaner to fully uninstall the drivers.

Can you move the card to a different PCIe slot?

This sounds like a bad card, PCIe slot, or driver.

Do you have OpenAL installed?

I think the problem is solved. I was able to play 2hours without crash.

What I did:

Uninstall all drivers -> driversweeper -> reboot ->driversweaper->reboot

Install Creative Driver 2.17, Install DTS connect pack, switch driver to game mode

run Mass Effect

Nearly the same I did several times before. I think Creative's drivers somewhat su**

Glad to hear that there has been progress. And yes I have not been impressed with Creative's drivers. I have been fortunate in that my one system with a PCI Extreme Gamer has been rather stable. I am running Vista x64 on it.

I have this same problem. It works everywhere else expect in Ilos, after you see the first Colossus and you start shooting it with Mako, it will cause that BSOD.

Mass Effect 1 and ME-2 were split into separate forums about five weeks ago.  Me-1 now has its own place to swap tech information in.

Hi
I have the same problem, a blue screen in ha20x22k.sys
And it seem to happen only when certain sounds are constantly repeating.
I had 1 bs using the mg on the mako and 1 manually decrypting a crate where I was running the cursor against a barrier and this "bing" sound repeated very fast.
My system is a freshly set up Windows 7 with newest drivers so I don't think reinstalling them would bring anything, any idea what else could be done?
