It's not like a sick obsession like you are making it sound. They like the character. As in personallity and history. Yeah I'm sure there are some who take it a bit far, but not everyone does that. I hope you realize this because it seems to me that you do not understand it.

Take for example, your favorite character in a book. If the author made an announcement that the character was not going to be in the sequal, wouldn't that disapoint you? Sure making threads about it and polls and stuff isn't going to influance BioWare's decision about the character, but the people need to hope it does.


I hate to break it to you....but some of them are a sick obssession...exactly like NoShtSherlock makes it sound.


So where is the middle ground where the character is memorable but not captivating and interesting but not compelling?  Seriously, is this a problem with the characters, or our interpretations of them? 


Middle ground...hmmmm....how about this...there is no problem with the characters, no problem with the interpretations either, the problem comes when people begin to profess their undying love for one and start taking the romantic aspect too far.  It almost seems like some people are blurring the line between reality and game world.  I feel like going onto a LI thread and letting some of the posters know that these are fictional characters.  But then I would get yelled at by all the mancers who kind of like what happened to NoShtSherlock posted above.

I love the fact that these characters are interesting and compelling.  But come on....I've seen some posters talking about how hot??Image IPB Tali is.  She has pronged feet and hands, a face you can't see.  Is here character interesting??  Sure but hot?  how so?  because she has curvaceous hips? 

It's a kin in my opinion to the DOA crowd.....you know most of them play it to see the computer generated disproportioned Japanese school girls in skimpy outfits.  Mass effect is so much more than just the romances but it seems to dominate these threads.  It is wierd.  

Now I am ranting....oh well....

I'm with the same guy I was with when Knights of the old Republic came out, and I enjoy the romantic interests in BioWare's games. I don't see why you feel the need to put down what some people find compelling about a game. BioWare games have always been character-driven, and romances have always played a part in that.

To assume that everyone who enjoys this part of the game is a basement-dwelling virgin is incredibly offensive to many adult gamers. This thread is also technically off-topic, as it has nothing to do with the game itself, just your opinion of the fans.

Great! Glad you are in a relationship.  Me too.  My comments were directed more at the wierdly obsessed people with regards to the love interests etc...Finding the characters compelling is one thing, being obsessed with romancing them is another.  So really no need for you to be offended.

I take part in the Garrus thread, and I've not seen any of the obsessive I-want-to-marry-an-alien-irl stuff you're talking about in there. So at the very least, don't lump us in with the rest of 'em. :ph34r:

I'm for both, tbh. I mean, I like Tali not only because she's a great character, but it also brings a nostalgia to me, for she reminds me of my old GF, we spent some of the best days of our lives with each other. So yeah. Justified my like for tali.

Obviously I generalized.  There are also more garrus threads than the one you are talking about I'm sure.  So whether or not you are one of thse people doesn't change the fact that there is lots of it.
