Well when Mass Effect is around for almost 50 years come back and say told you so.
Doctor Who has gone back forth in terms of Maturity and family friendly but has always brought something to the table that everyone can enjoy. Hell if the BBC gave Doctor Who the budget it deserved in the original run I doubt it would have been put on Hiatus in 89.
And thank you for taking the time to insult Doctor Who fans everywhere, I'm sure we really appreciate it.

Well if Docter Who got mature and dumped the kids, had science that was at least believable not f*cking space whales and moving statues that come out of video tapes, and had some proper special effects then I might enjoy it. Oh and dump the Daleks already and think up a new adversary. How can the Daleks even build stuff without arms?
It's Science..... FICTION. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. How can you have fun and enjoy if you spend all your time analyzing and complaining at every little detail.
Noy quite sure why you keep using "Mature" as your main problem since that word has been dragged threw the mud it lost it's main focus of meaning, are you refering to Mature as in blood sex and violence or Mature as in an intellectual story that challenges the audience and gives a different perspective of reality? (I should go dig out some examples for the upcoming reply)

While Mass Effect is a good game with a good storyline it has nowhere near the length and breadth of material, backstory, (or the viewers) that Doctor Who has.

Of course not because it hasn't been around for nearly as long. An ancient turd is still a turd though.GOYAFIDO wrote...

I was wondering what that smell was when you posted.

As I said Docter Who is FANTASY. It doesn't even try to give scientific explanations for all the crazy it has which science FICTION is supposed to.
I have Watched a lot of Doctor who and they do give explanations (yes in some cases it is rather far fetched but that is normally when they are dealing with a purely fictional concept). I get the feeling you are suffering from selective memory in order to re inforce that your opinion has validity.

Hmm. Star Wars. Little or no tech that I remember. I think maybe you watch too much Star Trek where they go into great detail as to how and why the diatic-thingywhatsis reverse hoodilates under various spectra of light in months beginning with the letter j in odd years in that repainted sharper image nose hair trimmer they use as a medical scanning device...

Making statements like the above without any sort of support is just mental drooling:
BRAWK!!! Please don't compare Docter Who to Mass Effect. Docter Who is low budget science fantasy for the plebs. Mass Effect is mature science fiction. BRAWK!!!
Prove it. No, a $10.00 word like "plebs" doesn't make up for all the empty space.
Beyond that, this is a silly assertion.
Mature science fiction? Mature in what way exactly? Because they don't use cheesy special effects? What other differences are there?
Cast of odd, wacky characters each of whom is a hero in his/her own right? Check.
Somewhat thought-provoking plot lines that deal with relationships, family, love, sacrifice, war, racism, killing, free thought, including a grail to retrieve and a dragon to slay and even companion loyalty quests? Check.
Odd over-powered technology? Check.
Butt stroking, shooting, blowing people up? Check.
Drinking? Check.
Romance? Check.
Feel free to fill in anything I missed. Doctor Who has it.

Back on topic, I'm not sure if the Reapers' weapons would do anything to the Daleks. Or vice-versa, really. They probably be stuck for ever in dark space trying to kill each other.

http://tvtropes.org/...FictionHardness
That Time Lord technology is supposed to be so advanced that it's pretty much impossible to be very hard with it. It's still funny how the rules of time travel tend to change depending who's writing the episodes. Well, time is a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff, meaning we are not supposed to take it so seriously.
Mass Effect tends to have some impressively hard concepts in the codex, but they are sometimes ignored when we see them in action. It's still pretty soft universe overall.
Not that I care that much if it's "soft" or "hard." Good story is a good story. What I don't like that much is when something pretends to be all scientific and realistic and it's not.

No lovers of British sci-fi here, I see.
Yes and that wasn't the season finale it hasn't aired yet.
New Doctor is sweet too (didn't want to say how awsomely great looking he is). I don't miss Tennant, Mr. Teeth. As for the ME refference. No, it's Doctor Who, they're always going on about dark space, BioWare stole it from them.

I'm a huge fan of Brit Scifi - maybe someday they'll do an re-imagining of Blakes 7 (althought I guess some might argue firefly came close). I was a bit worried the new Dr might be a bit young - but I'm warming to him.
