What the heck is with this game and all the problems. I love the game and was able to play through it twice on two different systems with no problems at all. Now my friend bought it and his pc is nearly identical to mine and guess what? Freeze, crash, burn.

WHY WHY WHY?

My first time playing I used this rig.

AMD XII 6500 Black 3.2 ghz
Asus M2N-E board
2 gigs 800mhz ram
ATI 4890 GPU
PC Power&Cooling 710watt
Windows XP

Not one glitch or crash, the game ran great. Then I upgraded and installed it on my new system.

Intel Q9550 2.83 ghz
Asus 775 Rampage
4 gigs 1066mhz ram
Nvidia 285 GPU
PC Power&Cooling 710watt
Windows 7/64bit

The game ran even better than before of course, no problems to speak of. So then my friend buys ME2 on my recommendation and tries to run it on a nearly identical system.

Intel Q8400 2.66 ghz
Asus P5Q
4 gigs 1066mhz ram
ATI 4890 GPU
PC Power&Cooling 610watt
Windows 7/64bit

Crash and burn my friends. The game crashes within 15 minutes. I can assure all that the pc is clean and running cool, no overheating. The PSU and GPU are brand spanking new and the CPU has a nice new coat of Artic Silver. All other games run without a problem.........HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? This forum is littered with people suffering all kinds of problems, so much so it makes you wonder if they even tested this game before releasing it.

Had to vent about this because $60 for a piece of software to make a pc crash is a bit excessive
when I could make it do the same thing without spending $60 by mucking with the BIOS.

How much longer for a patch already???????

Tell a little bit more about the crash/freeze/burn. Did the game freeze but you could ctrl+alt+del back to the desktop? Was there an error dialog box? Or does the game crash to desktop or does the whole computer freeze up or does the computer crash/reboot. Did you check your Windows event log to see what if anything is in there?

Has he overclocked his cpu, ram or gpu? Is it adequately cooled?

It's the same problem most of us are having, blackscreen, auto-restart, PC freezing etc. no fix yet, and no word from Bioware...

Sometimes i can play for hours without so much as a stutter, and there are days that i can't even play 10 minutes without a freeze or a BSOD.

Try earlier versions of video card drivers, disable every application you're running in background (aside of the essential ones marked 'system'):

For example i'm using Tuneup Utilities and it has a Turbo mode which disables updates unscheduled scans and processes etc. aside from that i try disabling explorer.exe, my anti-virus,RtHDvCPL.exe (sound card driver application uses allot of CPU and it's not truly needed per say).

Like i've said sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Hopefully Bioware will release a 200+ mb patch and fix all this bul.... crap. SOON!

Cheers!

Perhaps its the 64bit operating system? It's been awhile, but I could have sworn that can cause issues with some games.

I had a similar problem and found it was actually the audio.

On Windows Vista: I uninstalled a small program called Host OpenAL which is part of the Creative audio install. (It is a tiny program that allows other hardware use some of its apps, but is unnecessary.)

If you want, you can reinstall it at a later date using the latest version: http://connect.creat...al/default.aspx

On Windows 7:
Search "OpenAL" to locate OpenAL32.dll and remove it from the Mass Effect install folder.
Run MassEffect as admin.

I hope this works for you as it worked for me! (I'm playing it on Windows 7 X64)

Well we finally got the game running by re-installing windows7. I can't figure out for the life of me why this even made a difference, his windows was fully updated and had no previous issues with any software so who knows, but there you have it.

I know others have tried this with no success so I'm not recommending re-installing your OS here, just saying it worked for me.

I said it before and I'll say it again........THIS GAME IS WACKED!!!!! Although very enjoyable when it decides to work.
