I have to say ME2 was an amazing game. Loved it (except the mineral scanning part - though I think that was a mistake that Bioware will not repeat again) and I think it will inspire other game makers to develop more cinematic games. All the praises withstanding, I'm worried about the length and the scope of a third game - I mean there are so many combinations that need to be dealt with regarding Shephard's choices; rachni stuff, romance partners, who survived in both games, stuff with Illusive Man - these are all necessary aspects that will expanded. But choices like what happened in legion's, mordin's and tali's quests also seem to have impacts on particular species futures. I fear that Bioware may have led themselves in a deadlock. If they go the way which encompasses all these choices I fear that ME3 will be really short - take the crew members for example: the ending in ME2, IMO, makes it likely that former crew members will follow you. But many people let them die (some of them at least) so there should be new crew members as well. How can they resolve all these combinations without shortening some contents?

Or they can just reference past events slightly and build up some kind of a fresh start, which would suck. Now, I know that they didn't make the first 2 games without a plan for the last one but frankly, I don't think any kind of plan that doesn't involve around 10 years of production will bring a satisfying conclusion to the series.

The most likely thing that could happen is a space battle like at the end of ME 2 where your choices have an impact. Of course it would take more work to show some of these (also if they would expand the scope beyond a space battle, it would be welcome), that it did to show Tali get blown up or not blown up, Thane impaled or not impaled. ETC. I could go on, but the biggest issue is indeed the squad members as dialogue not only takes awhile to write and get down, it also takes up alot of memory on whatever medium they choose. They said the turn around for ME 3 wouldn't take as long, but that could be problematic.

Sure some of that dialogue wouldn't take that long, but you already have two Shepards, often two dialgue recordings of the other characters regarding your characters gender. Then you'd have use the VA of the old crew, record VA for a new crew. Depending on who survived in your squad record their VA, record VA for new characters so players won't get screwed if they import a squad that isn't at full capacity. etc...

It should be noted that Bioware is also undertaking the first and only fully-voiced MMORPG.

They are more than capable.

The question isn't whether they're capable or not; are they willing to spend enough time to expand all these choices or will they simplify past events? Financially, it will make sense to overlook most of the choices and I wouldn't blame Bioware if they do - as long as ME3 is a great game on its own.

I saw this too, the massive amounts of choices could seriously affect the game, by the end of ME2 there could be thousands of combinations of how the story played out through loyalty missions and such. And they would also have to write scripts for characters like Tali and Garrus even though some people will never see it (due to being exploded or killed by collectors). But Bioware is capable nonetheless, ME3 is going to kickass, so why question it?

Actually this is quite true.

I'm one of the few who suspects that ME3 will have at least as many new joinable NPCs as it does re-treads. And this thought makes me happy.
