I've moved past the fact that I couldn't find a use for the Plot Item "Cleanser" during the city elf origin by continuing my campaign.  The first town seems to have a bug (at least as far as i know) where in that this woman wants to buy traps off you if you have the skill or traps on you.  If you don't however, after dialogue ends you can never try again, unlike all the other quests from npcs (such as one in the forest that needs survival to inspect her animal.

Nevertheless

This is the first road block I encountered so far on my first playthrough, which happens to be nightmare difficulty (cause I enjoy challenges, they have value to me or im crazy).  My level 8ish party is composed of a 2-Handed (City) Elven Warrior (pure strength),Alastair, Morrigan and Leliana.  I must have wiped the whole party more then 10 times now and I lost count honestly after that.  My two warriors are setup to have 2 tactic slots reserved for potion consumption.  This guy does massive amounts of damage and has a crap ton of health.  Add to the fact that he has 4 guys to help him dismantle my party.  I even tried the kite a foe trick once I downed every foe around him.  However, arrows might as well bounce off him, they inflict comparable to 1 damage.

Another Bug Side Note: Below

Besides the bug where Alister loses his bow I had equiped on him because of lack of dexterity and too many save and reloads.  He lost his bow and it should have gone into our inventory, but it didn't.  Luckly I always have a back up save file.

Anyone on Nightmare difficulty fight this guy?  Tips if so?

Location Spoiler!!!!
East Brecilian Forest

I've had a TPK on that fight well over 20 times now myself and that is where I am currently stuck. I'm using shale, alister (sword and board), morrigan, and my dual wielding rogue. I'd love to hear/read some advice on this battle as well.

The Revenant from the Gravestone in the Dalish Forest (where the two ogres were)? I believe it is optional, I haven't finished the ruins, but you can at least get into them without killing him first.

But I couldn't beat him either with a level 8ish group. (and wasn't even on nightmare).

I wasnt aware any revenant is plot related, can always come back later for him, the first one i encountered is in the circle tower, and he only dropped 1 potion, wasnt worth the effort. because of his insane dmg out put, u need either to spam force field on the one with threat to keep it alive. for the rest just cast aoe like inferno / tempest to take him down, all other spell seems to just bounce off on him except cone of cold for some random reason. Tank and spank is not recommanded against those type of opponents.

Yeah, it doesn't look required, but I have an irrational need to defeat challenges such as this....therefore I'm stuck till I do. :(. Oh well. I'll get it eventually. I can't wait to go home and try some more. 'f8' has been my friend :)

I just managed to do this 6 hours ago (been playing none stop after the fact). I got tired of Alastair being next to useless on my game, so i switched him with Sten. Then I sold everything under the sun that was in my inventory that wasn't being used. I bought a bunch of ingredients and and two health recipes. After making a plethora of potions and exhausting the last of my gold.... I headed back to the forest. Potion Micromanagement for the win! lol, take that nightmare difficulty!

After the first one fell, I encountered a dragon which was slightly easier except for its overrun ability. Anyway there is more inside the ruins, I slew 3 already. I'm pretty sure there is one left however because after vanquishing the first one, your notified that your on another quest. So im about to enter the area for the main plot inside the ruins and i have no potions left lol....serves me right i guess. But it was worth it! :D

Also Important Side Note:
Killing the Revenants in this area is part of an optional quest
This Quest gives you a major reward

Its easy. He is immune to ice but you can still turn him into a big icecube with cone of cold. So just use 1-2 mages and mash away at him. He won't even get to hit you.

Well, that answered my question.  Nothing to see here!  *whistles*

Kiting this thing around the junk terrain in that room with Morrigan for an hour while using up all my mana pots on an optional boss just doesn't feel wise to me.  I'm not on nightmare, of course.  I don't think it's hard necessarily (on normal), just maybe more headache than it's worth?

Three mages against this thing seems like tough times though. I'm just continually spreading out and healing while waiting for Alistair to whittle him down. lol

This advice is useful if your characters have already reached 10th level.

Use fire-spirit-electricity-natural damage mostly. Use Cold balms for melee fighters since they suffer that kind of damage while standing by him. Your melee warriors should be in "shielded mode" (if your fighters have that fighting style) and "Precise Strike" if your weapons don't have a bonus to attack or if your characters have a level lower than 12.

Always place one of your fighters on the Revenant's six (backstab). If the Rev. turns around, the other fighter would be attacking his back.

If you use a rogue or anyone with a bow or a crossbow, use special arrows or bolts (not Ice ones).

I don't use Wynne, so Morrigan strikes from distance and I rely on health poultices with my 2 warriors.

I have used this tactics on Hard and Nightmare and they work just fine. Having good gear always helps.

the only advice i can give is when it says "take the vial" run RUN FOR YOUR LIFE D:

in seriousness tho put any dmg over time spells you can on him and any dmg boosting crap and hope your tank can hold agro and just nuke it as fast as possible the longer its alive the more likely death is and if it starts chasing somone u dont want it to hit and cant get it off well ... run around pillars and stuff just get out of its veiw as much as possible
