After reading about the continuity problems for certain people after they ended the game differently to what seems like the canon ending I have actually become excited to replay DAO so it all matches.

Does anyone else feel that way?

... Or am I just a weirdo? :P

Haha that's like me trying to play an "evil" character... it just feels so wrong, and I spend the whole time feeling bad for Alistair and the various characters I screw over.

After playing all the origins stories, I feel that the one that was best developed was the human noble, as well as being the one that gets the best endings, from a game-protagonist perspective, as you get a choice to be king/queen or take off to continue your travels. The other origins don't get the ruling option. So it would not surprise me if the cannon ending is more tailored for that particular origin.

I'm eagerly anticipating the time when BioWare can undo the horrific screwing they forced on me with 1.02. Whining about Awakenings can wait.

Lies, dwarves are too. We become Paragons! which is awesome.

....Man I really need to stop talking about dwarves so much in this fandom, I can't help it.

Dwarves are inherently inferior based solely on their accents in this game.

I'm going to agree that becoming a Paragon is far more awesome than becoming King or Queen of Ferelden. We're talking about a nation that most foreigners describe as smelling like wet dog.

No one would have complained if Awakening was the story of your epic pirate voyage around Thedas.

"After a powerful storm, you wash ashore on a tropical isle with only your tattered clothing and your faithful Mabari hound."

Dragon Age's story is focused on Ferelden, at least in the 2 books and in Dragon Age: Origins. And Ferelden is a HUMAN kingdom. So even if you get to become a Paragorn for one of the "supporting cast" that any non-human or non-fereldan represents, it makes you small in the universe. Becoming a King or Queen of the country and race that rule the land is by far more of a "protagonist" option.

You can chose to ignore the option, but when you think about it, only human nobles get the chance to rule Ferelden, making them the more influential and inscribing their name in Ferelden history in an extra way.

The Dragon Age: Origins is focused on Ferelden, and the two prequel books for Origins are as well.

This does not mean the Dragon Age story is focused on Ferelden. In fact, Ferelden is a backwoods nation with little or no power in Thedas. Its one claim to fame is Andreste but the Chantry itself is centered in Orlais.

Personally, I can’t wait until we found out what happens to Kal-Shorak.

Except you don't get to 'rule' at all. You're a consort. I made a human male noble - (I like my city elf boy better - cuter by far) - and he married Anora. (Bad decision - I'm going back to an earlier save & let Alastair rule.) She's the queen. You make no difference whatsoever. If you spawn the demon baby with Morrigan - maybe you'll have an impact - but that's hardly exclusive to humans. (though it is to males) I hated my epilogue. My dedicated warden-leader man ends up as a wimp who never appears to challenge anything Anora does. He'd have done better to hang around & advise Alastair. I liked the origin story - I liked the Howe connection, though it seemed pretty sparse, but in no way did it compare to the city elf story, in my view, or the mage, who actually does change the Circle.

Personally, I think it's bad form for any Warden to get involved in rulership, but pushed Alistair into it as I needed Emmon's support.

I know a *large* contingent of posters asked to become the king or queen while DA was still in development. (straight) Women especially complained that BioWare had screwed them in previous games because in Jade Empire, if you romanced Silk Fox you could rule but if you romanced Sky you ended up living in a van down by the river.

From all that we have seen, being the books and the game in question, Ferelden is the focus of this story. It might change in the sequel, but that would be irrelevant since we are talking about this particular game. The references to dogs, bad food, and cold as well as smells and lack of fashion (and probably even the rotten teeth!) are winks at England. You know, the guys who managed to take over the world and force us all to wear suits to work: at one point they were a backward nation with little or no power anywhere, it was a Roman outpost-conquest. They turned it around.

So in the context of this story, the options given to the human noble are more than those given to other races and they have a bigger impact on the land and race that are the focus of the story, that's all I am saying. Being queen/king consort is an appropriate title, but it does not mean that you do not rule. One of the Alistair endings even highlights that you rule in his absence.

^Many things point to DA2 not taking place in Ferelden though. And I, for one, would be rather disappointed if the focus of the story was to remain on this particular country. Thedas is big and there is still much to explore...

Well what happens in DA2 has little impact in how we feel about characters and options now. For this game, human nobles have an "advantage" as they get to chose to play a bigger role than other origins. To me this seems deliberate.

you are definitely not the only one, i stopped right before the landsmeet on my first character and didn't finish the playthrough until people told me that Alistair doesn't have to be the king in awakening.
