i would accept bioware's forced recruiting if we could keep her in a purgatory-like cage the whole game. forcing us to put an unstable super-biotic who hates cerberus right under the delicate engineering of one of their ships for no reason other than to progess the story.....all i know is, if some reporter in ME3 asks why i took all these crazy mudering people with me on my yet to be explained mission, i will give up on bioware forever if one of the dialogue options isnt "because the game made me":pinched:
Does anyone wish that Jack was not a required teammate?

Also I despise her punk imagery. I wouldn't even like it in a cyberpunk game.

I'm not one for tattoos or piercings, but this isn't the reason I dislike Jack. I actually think her shave head is cool. I just hate how she's a **** even when I'm being nice to her. I want to deliver a paragon elbow of righteousness right on her cue ball for being so annoying.

Also, for the record, Mordin really is the only key element to the story. No Mordin, no counter measure, no progression.
Miranda is definitely useless as far as the storyline goes, how can she lead a multi racial team that can't even stand the sight of her? With her useful biotics being "strong, for a human" which gets tossed out the window the second Jack appears on the dossier list. There was a reason TIM put Shepard in charge of Miranda's team as soon as he was conscious.
Now let's go down the list of muscle. Jacob, Grunt, Archangel, Thane, Zaeed. All of them no matter what qualifications they have are little more than an extra gun in the grand scheme of things. They were all suggested to you because of their expertise at ending lives.
Jack is suggested to you because of her abnormal biotic powers, her reliability in a fight being unpredictable but a strong biotic is usually a good insurance for a high risk mission. Samara also fits the bill but her extensive combat ability also fits her in the muscle team, making her twice the deal that Jack was.
Tali is a unique case, she's the only teammate that was recruited for the sake of Tech expertise. On top of that Shepard is the one that mentions her to TIM, no other tech expert dossiers are given to you. Legion is a tech expert but it was coincidence not design that you encounter him at all. This shows a lack of oversight on Cerberus's part.
It would have been nice though if there was something more on Shepard's behalf, who's to say anyone has earned his loyalty? I was a bit sad that there weren't any choices to purposely direct the suicide mission's success aside from choosing the right member for the right job. Say you're leaving to get out of the seeker swarm and your biotic is about to give out but a teammate you actually like is going to get grabbed as a result of this. Why not have the option to pop a round in the leg of the failing biotic, leaving them behind to pay for their failing rather than the one that you yourself actually like?
People only ever put their trust in Shepard, if they don't earn his trust, why can't you have nasty options to force events in another matter? Not once in ME2 did anyone ever go up to the man who was dead for 2 years, lost all his friends, crew, his ship, even his lover and ask him "Hey you ok? Need a hug?". Who ever bothered to earn Shepard's trust?
Yes, I do think Shepard could use a hug. <3

I'll take a reliable assault rifle over a missfiring GMLRS-missile with a guidance-error any day. If your weapon has an equal chance to hit you as it does your enemy it's not a very good weapon.

Even if I really hated someone I'd still recruit them

Why would you want to miss out on content of the game by not recruiting her? (thus making the game shorter)

Mental stability is a requirement for my crew. I wish I didn't have to take her.
Are you...serious? Have you seen the crew of the Normandy lol? Hell, there's even one point in the game where Shepard explicitly states, "Mental INSTABILITY is a sign up requirement for my mission". And that wasn't even in a Renegade conversation option.
As for Jack, I find her to be a decently written character, an interesting change from the others, and, to be honest?
Jack is good as a squad member. She ducks well. Her shockwave always helped me when I most needed it. Somehow, her AI is just better than the other members (my Miranda wouldn't duck to avoid a starship landing on her).
Top notch character in my mind. And I played Paragon/didn't really align well with her, and I'm saying that.
