Do you think the Garrus and Tali romances were just fan service?

But because it is a female talking to a man in a sexually aggressive way, it is nasty and not classy.{smilie}

It is fine to be "sexually aggressive" with a person you are in a relationship with.

Not with a guy you have met five minutes ago. That is called sexual harassment.

Or maybe it is an innate sexist attitude (even from women) that a female cannot be sexually aggressive with or just be sexually liberated in general.

OK, look: enough with the armchair psychoanalysis.  You're terrible at it.  People as a rule don't want their character to do just do stuff.  And they especially want the romance stuff under their control.  You should really stop trying to tell people why they didn't like something right after they tell you exactly why they didn't like it.  It's obnoxious.

Well if you don't like what I say then just skip over my comments, nobody is forcing you to read what I write. Also nowhere am trying to be a psychoanalysis. I'm just simply speaking my mind and backing up my beliefs. If that is a problem to you then too bad because I could careless.

The Garrus romance is also pretty much "nice boots, wanna ****?" It's just that it only starts after you've put up with some calibrations and done a mission, rather than from the getgo. It's also entirely your choice whether or not to do it.

I don't want to sound like a broken record here, but that relationship starts as two unattatched adults talking about the benefits of just having casual sex sometimes.

How was Shepard's inital conversations sexual harassment? She didn't propose sex or anything to that nature. Yes, her voice might have had some wetness to it, but that doesn't classify as sexual harassment.

Now if she came to him and said: "Damn Jacob, you amaze me....I bet you're good in bed"[/i] or something lame like that then I can understand, but female Shepard never said anything like that nor did she even imply anything like that until She and Jacob were fully into the romance.

If Male Shepard approached Ashley, Liara, Tali, Miranda, or even Jack in obviously sexual overtones then people for the most part wouldn't complain. However let female shepard let her hair down for a moment and now she is "too aggressive" and not "ladylike".

Eh...no.

I don't care what gender my character is . Creepy is still creepy.

Actually tone of voice is considered when assesing verbal sexual harrasment.

It was the body language, the voice, the general "tone" of every single conversation I had with Jacob (that is, until the brohug, which was the best part of the whole god-damned interaction with him).

You don't need to actually voice the attraction by making a proposal, it was plainly clear even without that. The fact that Shepard came on way too strong made me feel that I was being railroaded. I have absolutely no problem with sexually aggressive women (it's part of the reason I like femshep so much), but what I don't like is being forced into a situation where my character is doing things without my approval. There was no "just friends" button I could've pushed, and I resented the fact that I had no say in the matter.

I always thought that Fem Shep's "I just want to talk" line was either a) mis-delivered, or B) a bug where it should have only played later in the game after you initiated romance with Jacob.

However, other than that, when choosing all paragon dialogue options with Jacob, I never noticed anything inappropriate, and it all felt like "let's be friends".

The renegade options are sometimes quite sexually aggressive, however.

Not so much fan service.

Garrus' explanation could be attributed to his stories about how random crew mates would hookup to relieve stress. It's likely that he interpreted his and Sheps as nothing more than stress relief. Given how Shep propositioned him.

Tali, tough one, but yeah. Came off more as fan service than anything else.

Dear lord this thread is still going.. first it was necroed.. now we're still going in circles. Can't we just all agree that there is fanservice in the game and it's not a bad thing?

I'm endlessly amused by this statement and the fact that you have Miranda (ms ass loves the camera) as a avatar.

Simple Miranda is a woman that will do what ever it takes to get the job done and plus She is the only female character in the game that is not some horny ass alien girl  . We all know Garrus and Tali are fan service and I am sure they will take up 2 squad mates slots in 3 which is silly and stupid. But hey Bioware has been handing out character fan service for ME 1  characters cloacked behind the idea of ME 2 dlc that connects to 3 .

I don't usually post in necro'd threads but I've been away from these forums for a while (Mass Effect fans are almost as bad as Sonic Fans) but I gotta ask, where's the logic come from behind judging whether or not something is fan service? You could just as easily say that all romances in the series are fan service. "I like this character, wish I could do the sex to them" and then your wish is granted. I mean, you got Miranda running around shakin dat ass, and you got Thane all (presumably) handsome and attractive, why draw the line at Tali and Garrus? Tali explains her attraction to you through the romance subplot, its totally understandable if you ask me.

I haven't done the Garrus one yet but I think after this I'll go ahead and choose him (currently playing through ME2 again right now) and see what its like but I can easily see an attraction there too. I'm sure it was said, but you see Turians with all kinds of people. If there is a connection between two sentient life forms then they could find love I'm sure. At least, that's what Disney taught me growing up.

I'm sure my points have been brought up before in this once dead thread but just thought I'd still post for the sake of exercising my forum hand.
