True enough; Garrus must have stuck out the most because I liked him so much.

Sure Tali and Garrus was fanservice, just like basicaly everything else in ME2. It's easier and cheaper to keep old costumers than make new ones.

But I'm okay with this as long as it's done well and in my opinion it was. Considering the popularity of Garrus and Tali many agree. Some say fanservice has RUINED mass effect but I'm sure the profits will help BioWare and EA deal with the critics.

So there is a good chance we will see many of the LIs again in ME3. It's realy just up to what the writers decides will be a good story. Some say they must be excluded for "fairness", personal opinions, variables and so on. Some say this is all impossible because of things like variables and even if it was possible it will inevitably make ME3 bad. This is what Garrus has to say about that:

  





How can everything in ME 2 be fan service . I mean Tali and Garrus being in the game was complete fan service . Tali fans all but cried out for her to be in it. What pissed me off was she was in the first message in the game .Tali's whole attitude in ME 2 was disgusting and annoying .

I always knew she would be in it but I did not think she would be in the first mission and that her attitude would be so one sided

I still stand by, most of the game is fan service it, in fact many of the characters were designed to be appealing to one demographic or another.

There is a whole article about Thane that states just that.

Of course they were fanservice, but is that a bad thing? I will admit I made an excited, but manly scream of pleasure when I played the game and both Tali and Garrus were in it. 

Honestly though I loved how they wrote both Tali and Garrus in this one, romance or no. You can see how they both matured, and it was great to finally get some character development for the both of them.

Around here, "fanservice" and "retcon" may as well be four-letter words. They are of course neither bad nor good. Only in the execution do they become so.

As any producer of a product BioWare needs to give us consumers what we want. They know they can't make everyone happy so they try to make a majority willing to buy more ME games. And despite what some may think about how they do this it seems like it works. To put it short: Fanservice (especialy about Garrus and Tali) = profit. Deal with it.

Tali's romance seemed to fit. Garrus' seemed a bit forced. I think of Garrus more as a bud, whether you're playing femShep or not. Just my opinion, though.

All romances are a fan service in a way. Miranda and Jacob no less - let's just give the players some real good looking subjects they can "romance". Enough breasts and abs and the rest comes on its own, and I am sure we'll find fans for breasts and abs, respectively. It doesn't really contribute to the game as is. Though I am curious which role the Virmire Survivor is going to play in future.
