I have a little multi-tool keychain with a very pointy can opener (I think) extended. I clutch it in my hand when I walk around by myself at night in case I need to shank a bad guy [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png[/smilie]
Awww lol, gonna take a shot in the dark and guess you're a girl right?
Get a big dog, or make friends with an equally intimidating guy.
Not saying you cant handle yourself, but those are solutions.

True, but you can't always rely on others to keep you safe. Gotta be able to take care of yourself, one way or anotherOperative84 wrote...

@eremitix: Do you play the cello then? If I were to ever take up another instrument it would be the cello. Love how it sounds.
And to keep on topic... also in my pocket is my student ID. My dad told me my picture on it is ugly [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie] (lol, it really is though)

In terms of short blades (knives and so on), the modern military tecniques combine a lot of Filipino martial arts that I only have a purely theoretical idea.

When my pockets are full, they contain the following: cell phone and charger cord, keys with a zillion different keyfobs--one of which is actually useful (a mini-flashlight), nail clippers, a pen, my iPod, a dog treat and a training clicker, some Carmex lip balm, a paper napkin, and pocket lint.
...So you are related to McGyver!

Ah then I can relate to that. Well I wouldnt consider that lazy or weak by any standard, you're adapting to adversity, you're also using your mind to strengthen your ability to succeed in the world, because far too many people that are laborers or have physically demanding careers never think about "what happens when I get old, or what happens if I get jacked up". I'm an old dog with old played out tricks, lol. Sometimes I feel like you do, but then I remember how far I've come since I got hurt, just 3 or so years ago I was in a wheelchair, now I only use my cane if I really need it, sure I still limp, my nerves suck, and when I wake up it feels like someone beat the **** out of my back, but just doing something instead of laying there is a huge deal, takes strength to do that, so NEVER sell yourself short, you're still ninja and ninjas never sell themselves short either.

Well my injury was nowhere near as serious as yours, but man those back problems never really go away, do they? Good job on having such a positive outlook on things. You're a champ.

Depends I guess on the injury, my discs have degenerated or so they've told me since the initial injury, my knees well hell thats an all day everyday thing, the same for my feet, sometimes I wake up and it feels like I've broken something in them, but there are good days and bad, gotta take the bad with the hope that there will be a good, and the good with the encouragement that you can do more than you did on the bad, but at least I feel pain, some guys have broken their necks or backs and have no feeling, and yet they still go on, something to be inspired by I guess.
And well at first, I had no outlook at all, I was p***ed off, angry, sad, enraged, felt like tearing everything apart around me, but well it passed, sometimes those feelings come back, but I use that intensity to fuel the words I write now, I'm in no rush to finish what I've started I just hope that when I do finish, in a way I can shed some light on what so many of us go through and feel, how our worlds ended as we knew them, the aftermath of the trauma endured, guilt for things we've done, shame for surviving while others perished, and the treatment we receive not only from our government but from our own people. Maybe it will open some doors for us all, maybe things will change, maybe minds will open up to us, rather than dismiss us. High hopes I know. But better to have hope than be void of all.
