Why would I be kidding? Is there something about me that screams "this dude has a working familiarity with Gears of War 1 and 2"? I'm not sure if I should feel flattered or a little insulted by that.blackrhubarb 2.0 wrote...

What the heck is "horde mode"?
You're kidding, right?
It's the real world, blackrhubarb 2.0, not everyone is going to have the same videogame experiences as you.

Why would it force BioWre to change anything, and what, in your opinion, needs to be "polished" in the combat?roflspam wrote...
Having a multiplayer mode would force Bioware to further polish the gunplay, which can only be a good thing.

Oh, I know the titles, and I know what kind of game Gears of War is, I just wasn't familiar with "horde mode." I'm primarily a single-player-game guy, even in MMOs.blackrhubarb 2.0 wrote...
Considering you work in the industry, I thought you would at least know about it. I didn't mean it to be insulting, but it's very surprising.

Ok, now am I watching an example of how things should be done, or of how not to do things?yoomazir wrote...

just watch this video and see by yourself :
And what, precisely, am I watching for? Animations? Weapon models? Movement speed? Level design? Audio? Colour palette? Art style? Enemy AI? Weapon stats? Ammo? GUI? Targeting reticle? Multiplayer interaction? Performance? Graphics fidelity? Usability? Fun factor? Sight lines? Difficulty? Number of targets on screen? Field of view? Depth of field? Camera?
Everyone perceives things slightly differently, and everyone's got their own preferences. If you want to compare ME to GoW, or if you want ME to be more or less like GoW, be specific in what you'd like to see or what, in your opinion, we could possibly change/improve.
I'm not saying it's going to happen, or that we would necessarily agree with you, but the more specific you can be, the easier it is to be on the same page.

Then I shouldn't talk about the Volus doormen or the Krogan security force, right? Yeah, real world does put a damper on things, doesn't it? That's why I'm glad I work in the world of make-believe and can sit on my throne in this ivory tower looking down on all y'all.obie191970 wrote...
You have a point Stanley. Unfortunately, a lot of people would like to think that seeing you do work for a game developer you would know everything there is to know about gaming. I mean, seriously, what kind of loser doesn't know what "Horde" mode is?!?!? Secondly, a lot of people would like to believe that you do not work in the real world - That you really work at a place that has actual Turains making you coffee and Asari strippers in the cafeteria every day.
I fall into that second group of people....
...before finishing this story and dialogue review... stoopid real world. I want a pony.

I do consider it an advantage. I don't, however, assume that Gears of War is the only game out there.blackrhubarb 2.0 wrote...
Wouldn't you consider it an advantage in QA to play many games from different devs and genres?
Games I've had to play only sporadically due to lack of time: Star Trek Online, Civ 4, Soul Calibur 4, Dynasty Warriors 6, Brutal Legend, Rock Band, BioShock, Borderlands, Torchlight, Batman: Arkham Asylum.
And that's just videogames. I also run a Deadlands game, planning a Heroes Unlimited game, and play Urban Arcana, Legend of the Five Rings, Scion, and Ravenloft.
Many games, different developers, different genres. Check.

I really don't consider any singular game to be "basic gaming experience." If I did, I might dismiss the opinions of anyone who didn't play Triple Action on the Intellivision, or Atari's Adventure!, or the original X-Com, or, heck, D&D Basic. Heck, this entire forum might be restricted to those who played Shattered Steel or the original Baldur's Gate. But it isn't.
In a world where you can find a different game or genre on any device you happen to carry around with you, where most people have at least one videogame-capable platform on which to play, why is it so unseemly for one guy to have never played one arbitrary game? And how does that relate to this discussion or the job I've been doing for the last 9 years, or Mass Effect 2, on which many QA worked, not just me?
Really, I'm just trying to understand where y'all are coming from so I can better answer the questions I'm able to. I mean, y'all do seem to like developer responses, even if it's just l'il ol' me.
