Your approval of the games that I play are sorta irrelevant to this discussion, Monstruo696.

I really don't consider any singular game to be "basic gaming experience." If I did, I might dismiss the opinions of anyone who didn't play Triple Action on the Intellivision, or Atari's Adventure!, or the original X-Com, or, heck, D&D Basic. Heck, this entire forum might be restricted to those who played Shattered Steel or the original Baldur's Gate. But it isn't.

In a world where you can find a different game or genre on any device you happen to carry around with you, where most people have at least one videogame-capable platform on which to play, why is it so unseemly for one guy to have never played one arbitrary game? And how does that relate to this discussion or the job I've been doing for the last 9 years, or Mass Effect 2, on which many QA worked, not just me?

Really, I'm just trying to understand where y'all are coming from so I can better answer the questions I'm able to. I mean, y'all do seem to like developer responses, even if it's just l'il ol' me.

Stanley, you're in the console realm now. You should know your competition.

Horde mode isn't that great. It's a very basic survival mode. Now Firefight. That's a mode you want to look to for inspiration.

You know, if they ever do bring in Multi-player, am I the only one who'd rather that they designed their own, instead of ripping off someone else's model?  I guaruntee they could do a better job of coming up with something to fit ME's style than other devs have.

Horde is designed to fit the sort of game that GoW is.  Firefight is designed to fit the sort of game that Halo is.  ME isn't the same sort of game, period.

It seems like some people see "horde mode," think of Gears of War multiplayer and begin to freak out about adding multiplayer and watering down the experience and/or diverting resources from the single player game and make a poorly done multi-player game add-on.

However, a repeatable end-game addition where you could enter a combat simulator, select the terrain, the enemy, difficulty and more would be great.  True, there would be no real additions to the story, but at least I would be able to run amuck at will with my characters who I have taken all the way from ME1 through ME2 (especially while waiting for additional DLC, heh!).

And true, I could always play through the story again or go on higher difficulty levels (beat it several times already, working through all the difficulty levels and and about ready to go through Insanity right now), but the more I think about it the more I would like to see a combat-simulator in-game at some point.  There could be some achievements involved, maybe a chance to compete against some other races/forces that you would not normally face (your troops vs other races' troops like the STG, Alliance Marines, and Council Spectres...), and it would all be canon as well.

Remember, the moon has that VI system where they have combat simulators going on, it was deemed invaluable for the training of the alliance troops...

It's not ripping off. It's called paying homage.

This is the first post regarding a combat simulator or equivalent that has made sense. Kudos mr. Dreadwraithe.
I don't know what the 'official' stance is regarding what ME2 is primarily about. If it's the story, the combat or the characters or something 4th I've never considered. ME1 was about Shepard's story, mostly. Combat was secondary. But it still got a simulator thingy. At least I think it was. Never bothered trying it out. ME2 focusses a lot more on combat and because of that, why shouldn't it get such a simulator?
But anyway... If they haven't already planned on releasing such a DLC pack, don't hold your breath. It would mean that they had to spend money developing it and unless they're completely 100% certain that those expenses will be covered, they won't make it. Hell, I'm cynical enough to assume that they won't make, unless they're pretty much guaranteed to not only cover their expenses, but earn at least the same amount 2 or 3 times again.
Anyway, you can count me out. I have already paid full price for a game that isn't complete (The hammerhead, kasumi (or whatever that human thief is called, Zaeed and whatever else they've planned already has places aboard the Normandy) and I'm not paying a dime more.

Not really?  Homages are made to characters, to places, to stories.  Copying a game element doesn't qualify.

And that's not even getting into the idea of whether or not these games are worthy of the homage from a far superior series/title.

Seriusly, can't you people see, that horde mode doesn't go well with the aesthetics of the game...
A battle simulation, an ilegal arena on some cantina, hell, just every thing could fit more with the game than a horde mode.

Its a common human trait that we see only what we want to see. Kinda how I see that the game has no waffles and it makes me a said rooster :(
