I think part of the beauty, and crossover appeal, of her character is that Tali can be anything to everyone. Literally, since we don't know what she looks like, and since she's an Alien, she’s not limited to looking like one of us with blonde hair or green eyes or even looking more like one race over another. You think not seeing Tali’s face was disappointing? Try to imagine how disappointed you’d be seeing it and hating how they made her look.
If Tali’s face is shown, the character as we know her, what she means to each of us, will be lost forever. You could still love her as you did before, but part of her characters appeal is the mystery and that would be gone.
If some fans relate to her because they think she probably has plain, homely looks (in Quarian terms anyway), then they’ll be disappointed if she’s revealed to be a Quarian bombshell or vice versa.
When I think of Tali, I don’t imagine a particular race, hairstyle, eye color, etc. I love the fact that she remains a mystery (I always picture her with the helmet). Personally, I feel the majority of modern day stories; be they on television, movies or novels, sadly commit the crime of leaving absolutely nothing to the audience’s imagination.
Even though Bioware allows us to create our own Shepard, we know our individual Sheppard’s will never be the canon one from a visual standpoint (mine is African American) and certain key storyline points will happen no matter what choice we make in our dialogue options.
Tali is a character that allows us to use our imaginations and that’s something I sincerely hope Bioware doesn’t take away.
