@Joeshie @Patas @Suilebhain @Afryte Try this

@digitalforceq email me on gmail as twitterkilo and I'll try and edit your saved files and mail them back

@Pauravi (I'm basically re-explaining what you said)

I hope people don't think I'm randomly spamming this, but since it's semi-related, you can change the appearance of your character in game without having to start over:

(copy)

Dragon Age Origins Change Character Appearance 2010

It's possible! 2010-02-21 (Backup your game first by making a copy of the Bioware folder in My Documents)

So you made your character, but there's something you don't like about it. Use these steps to remake your character from scratch.

Download and install the toolset http://dragonage.bioware.com/toolset

Open Dragon Age Origins.

Load the save game you last played of the character you want to change the face / appearance of. Make a new save, name it "changeface", then exit the game.

Make a new character of the same race and sex as the character in the "changeface" game. Make the name be "MyFace". Pick out the new way you want it to look.

Tip: If you want to use the face of a character you already have to put on a different character, you can do that too, just follow the steps below about changing the game files and skip the steps about creating a new face.

Tip: You can download extra hair colors http://www.google.co... Vibrant Colors and http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=555

Tip: Take screenshots of the sliders when creating the character, this will help you tweak it further if you don't like the appearance of your new creation.

Start the game of the new character. Check to see if you like the face.

Tip: You can run up to a solid object, then move the "camera" to be right in front of your face (between you and the wall) and it will zoom in close on your characters face.

If you don't like the face, delete the character, and start again (work off the screenshots of the sliders to get that tweak just the way you want it).

Once you like the face, save the game as "newface" then exit the game.

If you have a slow computer, you may need to Quit the Dragon Age game so the computer doesn't run out of memory when loading the game files from the toolset.

Open the toolset (Start>All Programs>Dragon Age Origins>Dragon Age Toolset)

We will first open the save game "newface" and copy the part of the file that has the appearance (called "MORPH" in the file), then we'll delete that out of "changeface" and paste it into the same place.

File>Open File = My Documents\\Bioware\\DragonAge\\Characters\\Myface\\Saves\\Slot_1\\newface.das

Click the little plus ( + ) signs to expand them on these items:

+SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR

++SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR

Scroll down to find a line called: SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH

Right click SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH and choose "Copy". We are "copying" the face from this saved game.

Tip: If your computer is slow, do File>Close before opening the second saved game.

Now we open our other character so we can "paste the face" into it.

File>Open File = My Documents\\Bioware\\DragonAge\\Characters\\\\Saves\\\\changeface.das

Click the little plus ( + ) signs on:

-SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR

--SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR

Find the line that says SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH right click it and choose "Delete". (slower computers will *choke* for a moment)

Scroll back up to the line SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR right click it and choose "Paste". (again, on a slower computer it will look like it's crashing, give it a moment)

File > Save

File > Close

File > Exit

Open Dragon Age Origins. Load the "changeface" save. You should now see the face you've created. Run around for a little bit, maybe move to a new zone or two, try going into combat, if everything looks good, save it as "twitterimkilo".

Now just play the game as normal, and enjoy the face you always wanted!

Hi there.

I'm having trouble opening my old character's .das file in the toolset for the purposes of changing her face.

Every time I try to open it, I get an out of memory error from the toolset.

It's a big file (13 MB), but I think that's because it's an end-game save.

Does anyone know if there's a way to open such a file in the toolset for the purpose of changing a character's looks?

Or is there, perhaps, a way of shrinking the file before attempting to impor it into the toolset so that the thing won't choke?

Thanks.

This works for 64 bit systems if you have 4 or more gigs of ram

Hey, I'm sure this has been asked and answered (probably repeatedly by now) but have to ask...

Can I use the toolset to undo speccing into templar... did it a while ago without realizing (was speeding through the convos) and well... Just want to remove that.

Not sure about doing it the toolset, Fuzzy, but there's definitely a respec mod available.

I've used it a number of times.

Downloaded it at dragonagenexus.com

The social network server can't digest DA screenshots? Mine weren't "parsing", so had to upload to a sucky free site which downsized my 1920x1080 image, hence the poor quality.

This problem is fixable. apparently in-game screen shots have extra information stored in the jpg. Open it in any image editor and re-save it as a .jpg or just convert it to a .gif, .png, etc... then it should upload fine.

I have a tip/workaround, a question, and an answer.

First, some info:
I didn't see it mentioned in here, but there IS a way to change a character's face without specifying a morph. It takes some extra steps, but it DOES circumvent the problem with shape-changers being broken, and it allows you to use the faces of other characters without having to re-make their faces in the morph tool. It is not too difficult:
Under the SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR -> SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR tree, you'll find an entry called SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH. This field contains (in hexadecimal form) all the info for the player's head. First, open the save that you want to copy the head from and simply right-click and copy this entry, or open up the field and copy the huge block of hex info. Then open up the save that you want to copy the head to and either delete the entry then paste in the new one or, if you just copied the hex info, click "Paste Values". Save the file, and you're good to go.  If you have already created a morph and would like to use it, but don't want to break shapeshifting, simply open the morph in the toolkit and save it as as preset (a .mop file), then create a new character using that preset.  That save file will now contain the hex info for your head in the SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH entry.

Pauravi, Thank you very much for this solution. I found a few pages when searching the web for the how of changing the face of a character in a game already in progress, and the above is by far the smoothest. I was able to use the in-game character creator (instead of the Toolset's head morph feature) and simply copied and pasted as appropriate. I can't foresee any of the complications people have suggested elsewhere (with other solutions) which might mess with shapeshifting and what not. Excellent and helpful post, thanks again!

I also assumed that replacing the soundset text in the appropriate (two) fields would change his voice, though in the new save he's turned remarkably silent. Though I think I prefer silence to having to hear him exclaim "Shall I get you a ladder, so you can get off my back?" once more! :o

So, a question: I have a fantastic head that I managed to create ingame. However, I'd like to tweak the underbite/overbite slightly (I didn't realize that when I was creating her, she was looking to the right, which casts a shadow on the lower lip. I adjusted for that, and ended up with an underbite that annoys the hell out of me.) I've tried recreating the head a dozen times, and just can't get to the point I am with the original. Is there any way to import the hex information in the savegame into the morph editor?

*Edit* sorry, just read through the entire thread (google search plunked me at the last page, didn't realize it.) and see that it's not possible to get the hex data into the morph editor. A pity.
