Avatar is pochohantas with special effects on one planet. Mass Effect utterly rapes it in terms of plot, characters, drama, pretty much everything.

Exactly that. Admittely the ME fanbase is made up ( mostly ) by  a bunch of nerds who like Tali. At least they can like her because of her personality, not her looks.

Tali doesn't look like an animal, in fact, we don't know what she looks like at all. People like her for voice/personality. Furries are disgusting and need to purged from the earth, holocaust-style.

The majority of them do have varying degrees of being a furry. Check out their rediculous fan forums if you don't believe me. (they are very easy and rewarding to troll)

 So, basically what you are saying is, that all furies or people who like/don't mind them, are zoophiles? And since when is somethings rating based on its fanbase?

You can't compare a movie to a game for a "Best Movie of the Year" or "Best Game of the Year" award, no.



But stop saying you can't compare their stories. You CAN.

You can't compare length or gameplay mechanics or such, no.

But writing, acting, directing - yes, you really can.



It's like saying you can't compare ice cream to an apple.

One is a fruit the other is a dairy product, so you can't compare them as fruit or dairy products.

But you can compare them as food - taste, nutritional value, calories, etc.



The "apples and oranges" cliche is bad, too.

If you are trying to say which is the better APPLE, then comparing to an orange doesn't work.

But which is the better FRUIT? Yes, you can compare apples and oranges.



I'd tell some of you to try thinking outside the box, but I'm afraid you aren't even exploring most of the box yet.

On the subject of storyline I wouldn't be so quick to say ME2 > Avatar. Sure Avatar's got a pretty shallow plot but in a sense, ME2's plot isn't that great either, not when half the storyline is just running around recruiting people who for sme reason are all really enthusiastic to hop on the bandwagon. Heck Legion's the only one whose integration into the squad actually factored in remotely into the main plot rather than just being another dossier.

Then of course there's plot holes like the shuttle that holds everybody at that one crucial plot point, as well as other issues that leave people wondering, like why doesn't Cerberus try to station some firepower at the Omega 4 relay to catch the Collectors as they transit, etc.

Bioware nailed a lot of little details nicely, but the big picture's not as rosy as I'd have hoped.

Yeah if you read between the lines the thread starter's really just bashing Avatar and using a comparison with ME2 as an excuse to make the thread seem more relevant in this ME2-centric environment. You could just as easily compare it with Star Wars in a Star Wars forum for the same result.

I disagree.  While the poster did choose to compare to Avatar, which he clearly is not a fan of, he listed a few aspects.  And then went off Avatar for a bit to praise ME even more about it's creation of alien species as compared to Star Wars and Star Trek.

It was well written and the intent need not be seen as malicious.  Plus it is mostly praising Mass Effect.

What others have chosen to read into that, well...

I can do the same. Asari are just blue females. The drell are just big frogs. How about the geth? Just a rip off from countless other scifi "the robots rise against their creators" races. The Quarians are just the humans from BSG in EVO suits.

We all can make over the top generalizations and then say they suck.

Opinions are nice but they are not facts. No point in stating that one is better then the other.

If people want to compare things thats fine by me. Just do not make a statment that one is better/greater then the other then support it with cherry picked generalizations supported by your opinion stated as if its some sort of universal truth.

I doubt that. Honestly they COULD squeze the whole ME1 plot in a 2 hour movie. Don't tell me it wouldn't be epic, cause it would.
