Really hate Health/Shield UI

Your shields constantly regenerate and your hardsuit repairs damage to your body.
You only ever need to see their health when they've taken damage (and it is only when they've taken damage that the health/shields bar pops up on the UI), otherwise they are always at maximum. You don't have to constantly check their status when they're just running around, cuz you're know they're at max shields/health. It'd be like someone sending you a text message every two seconds saying, "Everything is A-O-K!"

i dont care for it, there is no way you can simplify the UI to the mainstream shooter level you want to without scrapping every last shred of RPG in the combat bioware. just make it nice and pretty, but you really cant streamline squad status at all effectively; i hate not having the slightest clue when my team is going to die much more than the very tolerable space it would take to fix the problem.

Sooo... How exactly would your gameplay change if you saw the health bars of the squad taking damage in the middle of a fire fight?

Except that 99% of shooters have a HUD that's more cluttered than even the ME1 HUD, so your statement is invalid.Frotality wrote...

ME2s UI appears to be striving to be a shooter but I feel it is leaning to far in that direction and missing the point that is also an RPG

The fact that it's hard to determine the health and shields of the companions and that there are no minimap toggle, is by far the greatest flaws of the current UI and it keeps pissing me off.Sorwen wrote...
I'm sure this has been said (just as I'm sure other like it), but I cannot being to say (I stopped my game just to post this in the hopes someone will see and thing twice next time) how much I loathe not seeing Shepard and the teams health and shield bars all of the time. There are a lot of things I feel they really miss handled in their quasi attempt at some type of shooter-esque feel, but it makes it really annoying not being able to tell at a glance my teams status. Oh and that I have to click the mini map every 5 seconds if I want to see it. If nothing else it should have been a option.

I finished ME2 twice and decided to go back and pa ME1 again, i have to say the ME2 system is much nicer than the ME1 squad management. In ME1 I always feel like I am waiting for my damned medigel to cool down.
same here !, the worst part is when you are fighting a hoard of drones with one or two rocket drones (they somehow kill you in ONE HIT) and all your sqaudies are dead.
I like me2's system better

Do you really need to see the fact that you have full health displayed on the screen for you to know that you have full health?Sanguinius_nz wrote...
I have to agree, not being able to see at any moment my shield + health levels along with those of my party as well as the relative strengths of their health and shield pools is something frustrating to me.

And as I already said, 99% of shooters have HUDs with more clutter than even Mass Effect 1. And how is it shooter centric to minimize HUDs when practically all games are doing away with HUDs? Only games that need them are strategy games, MMORPGs, and turn based RPGs.

Cluttered? Most shooters have HUDs that are better than what we have in ME2, but you thinking of them as being cluttered doesn't make someone's else point invalid. If anything most games don't display enough info on HUDs.

All HUD's are cluttered, for the most part. I'm not a fan of HUDs. Give me an ammo counter and we'll call it a day.kraze07 wrote...

Second, the bloodshot "I'm dying" effect comes on too quickly, and the stark black and red coloring betrays the uber cool art design of the Mass Effect universe. It needs to be toned downed or redesigned completely.
Third, the pop-ups for the Use/Talk/Open button should only appear when Shepard gets close enough to actually use them. It's confusing when someone or something's hidden across a crowded room. It makes it less immersive because you're badgered into following the pop-up like a magnet instead of paying attention to what's actually happening in the room and who is interesting and where the entrances and exits are.
Fourth, updates on accomplishments and items don't need a massive picture taking up a quarter of the screen.

God, I hate that. Several times, I got the popup for stuff that was around a corner, prompting me to run around like an idiot to find what triggered it.racerx85x wrote...
I've got to get this off my chest: the "Bobble-Heads Up Display" = ridiculous. Why would anyone need two miniscule portraits on the bottom of the screen? I could turn around to get the same thing. [Shepard turns around ] "Hi Miranda. You're hot. I just forgot for a moment there. Wish I had a snapshot to remind me all the time. Yes, that's better... wow Mordin is ugly. Bad idea."
