Got up to the prison ship, then gave up on my Vanguard. Perhaps I should just stick to my infiltrator (which beat ME1 on Insanity) as you folks said.

Praetorians ain't much of a trouble as long as you have somewhere to take cover from their eyebeams. That and don't be anywhere near when they do their shockwave-barrier-recharge. It's the masses of husks that complicate things.

Guess my ME2 tactics are lacking, still, perhaps I should start an insanity playthrough with a level 30 character instead of a level 1 one lol

The main reason for having to reload several times in the last fights was that I picked bad positions for me and my squadmembers. As soon as I figured out where to fight for every wave of enemies, it was pretty easy to win the battle. For the first two battles (the one with two scions and the next one), running left to the uphill cover with my whole squad made it rather easy. For the following battle, I went to the opposite side of the entrance, behind cover on the right half of the wall. The scion battle was pretty easy, just running around and hitting him with all powers and weapons.
My squadmates were Miranda (for the Warp to get down the collector barriers) and Grunt (for squadi ammo , and because I feared the husks. Also, he survives quite a long time against harbinger and concussive shot sometimes kills husks without armor instantly for some reason (pretty much like Pull). Coul have taken Jacob instead of Grunt, maybe he would've been better.
Also, I used advanced training to get reave for this mission (having more than enough element zero).
So far, it was definetly the hardest part of the game, but not impossible, especially considering that my skillbuild for the engineer is rather bad (now that I have "retrain powers" this might change).

As for the Praetorian fight, it was a simple matter of taking cover and having my squad lay into the thing, while throwing in the occasional Warp and Incinerate to speed things up a little. Again, time-consuming, but easy.

I died 2-3 times at the right shutter, because I tried to rush too hard. I think this one is a question of getting the right balance between safety and speed. I agree that it is the hardest part of the first four recruitment missions, though. Mordin, Jack and Grunt were surprisingly easy as an Engineer.

I had problems with Horizon's last area myself. Most of the area was a cake-walk, but that initial assault of Husks and two Scions was killing me left and right. I finally figured out the trick (at least, for a Soldier): Collector Particle Beam. The Particle Beam rips through the Husk's Armor and Health amazingly fast, even on Insanity. Once all the Husks were dead, I was able to take cover and focus on the Scion's, and when you only have to worry about a couple of Scion's, things are actually pretty easy. Time-consuming, but easy.

A single, well placed shot with the Avalanche can take out a whole swarm of Husks. Even on Insanity. Actually, especially on Insanity, because that's really the only time they present any sort of trouble.

Everyone says that Infiltrator is the hardest for Insanity, but imo it seems the best opinion. So far I've only died a few times, and with cloaking, incinerate and greater range plus tungsten rounds on a level 30 character...I'm yet to get to Horizon though.
I am dreading it.
i heard recomendations that the infiltrator and soldier were the classes to go for insanity, so that is what i'm playing as. i've died my fair share (especially on tali's recruitment mission) but the cloak and sniper combo have saved me more then a few times

Also, since I knew the husks were going to appear up on that landing in the 2nd (3rd?) wave, two well placed shots with the Blackstorm weapon obliterates them before they can basically stand up. However, if you do this: it breaks the damn game .I tried it twice and had to reload both times. Only one Collector flies down after they're dead and once you kill him, nothing else happens. No more Collectors and the Praetorian never shows up. Bah! It's not my damn fault you gave me this Black Hole Generator, Bioware. *** Ka-boom!...floaty floaty floaty...suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck-em-all-in...KA BOOM! ***
Yeah I made my whole squad go up on that platform for cover, then the husks start pouring out right behind me so Shepard's like "AIGHT LET'S GO LETS GO". Then my squad is dead so I'm running for my life using Tact Cloak, finally find some Medi-gel, and played hide-and-seek with the mini-boss at the end by that square stack of stuff at the beginning on the left. Felt so proud, I regret playing on Normal for my first playthrough
Horizon is epic.

Even through their armor? Or do I have to take that down first? If it works through Armor, then I'll look into brining the Avalanche to the Reaper IFF mission.

Not through, but Husks have very little armor and the Avalanche has a bonus of x8 damage vs. defenses, so yeah, just shoot it at them. Husks automatically shatter once frozen.

Ah. Wish I'd known that before taking on the Horizon mission. Would have made things much easier.
