You're given the choice to go back and save the remaining people in the plant or let whatshisface escape...  if you go Paragon and go after the survivors does whatshisface escape after all or can you still go back for him?

Vido escapes and Zaeed gets pissed off at Shepard, but if memory serves right you can Paragon check him and still get his loyalty.
