Something I've been curious about are the various ammo types and the damage bonuses they give you.

For example, Warp Ammo and Armor Piercing both affect Armor and Health, but Warp Ammo also has an affect against Barrier. All things being equal, why would you pick anything other than Warp Ammo? Are damage bonuses constant, or more concentrated?

In other words, Does Warp Ammo affect health, armor, and barrier equally compared to Armor Piercing? Or since Armor Piercing is more specialized (since it only gives a damage bonus against armor and health and not barrier) is its damage bonus against armor and health greater than Warp Ammo?

I know that's fairly convoluted, but I'm sure I made sense somewhere in there.

Also, does Cryo Ammo do any particular damage bonus, or is its chief advantage its ability to freeze opponents?

Addendum:

Does Incindiary Ammo affect Armor and Health in a similar way to Armor Piercing, or is one better suited for health and one better suited for armor?

When an enemy is frozen they take double damage. I think...

When you having Armor Piercing ammo at Rank 4 and then choose Tungsten Ammo you'll see you do more damage on Armor than Warp Ammo. But its personal preference I say since warp ammo affects barriers and AP doesn't.

All ammo powers work like this: Against the correct defense type (e.g. armor for incendiary), it will add X% of your base weapon damage to each shot. Against an unlisted damage type, ammo powers do nothing.

Warp Ammo works against the highest number of defense types, but it has the lowest +X% (max +50%) modifier. AP Ammo, on the other hand, works on 1 less but has a higher +X% (max +70%). I have heard that Warp Ammo is kind of bugged and actually works on shielded organics, but I never tested it.

Against armor, Incendiary Ammo deals the full +X% immediately. Against health, it deals that damage over a period of time, but has a high chance of "stunning" the target. It's quite good due to that, arguably the best ammo power.

Cryo Ammo adds no damage at all. Against undefended enemies, it has a chance to freeze. After a second, an affected enemy will be frozen, unable to move, and has a high chance of keeling over. All attacks deal +100% against frozen (and biotically impaired, as a matter of fact) enemies.

All in all, since its based on base weapon damage, the +X% is not all that significant. You occasionally shave off bit here and there, but it's not a super boost.

This is probably the best explanation I have run into.

I really appreciate it.

Warp ammo is also supposed to increase in damage if the target is in a biotic field. Does anyone know by how much?

I've just switched from warp ammo to Tungsten ammo for my Adept and I'm liking it a lot too. Now I can't decide which I prefer. 70% is a lot of damage and there is a lot of armor on insanity but if warp ammo is doing damage in that neighborhood when the target is in a biotic field that might be the clincher for me. It's so hard to get a handle on the differences in the chaos if an insanity firefight.

anyone know?
