6 origins in all, 2 genders, that's already 12 sets of VO's they have to do. let's say theoretically the Warden has 1,000 lines in the game, that's already 12,000 voice files they have to add IN ADDITION to the NPC's. also add that to the fact that i would feel disconnected from my character.

so NO. no VO's please.

and yes, this is already thread 1001 of the same topic.

on one hand i want him to have a voice, on the other hand i think it will be hard to do, unless they do like 3-4 versions of it and let us pick one,

The game is already short. It would have been ridicuously short if there would have been voice acting for the PC too.

How long is short?  The game took me 50 hours the first time through and I did most of the side stuff.  And I considered it a long and full game experience.  Is 50 hours short for you?

Yes. Anything below 100 hours I consider short. Normal would be 100-150 hours. More than 200 hours I consider long.

It took me 123 hours the first playthrough. I'd consider that a good length for an RPG.

That said, voice acting does *not* work in a large-scale RPG. End of story.

All i can say is that i did at times feel a sense of isolation and random silence while playing the game because well my character had no voice which in turn leads to a lack of identity. This acting concurrently with the minor decision influences ( yes i felt they were minor and you can do nothing to persuade me otherwise) presented as a minor gripe which could have been dealt with but i reckon they should look into more pressing matters as is, let alone be worried about voice.

I don't buy the "It'd break my immersion" argument, but I do see the significant expense of hiring at least 4-5 extra VAs.

I was a little perturbed at first, having come from Mass Effect, but I would rather have more dialogue options with PC than less, even if that means sacrificing a voice.  Besides I find it quite fun roleplaying the voice myself, (in my head of course).  As long as the other character's have voices I am very happy with the current system.

I'd have to agree with the NO vote on this one. Without a ridiculous variation in voice acting it would take away more than add to the game.

I like it without pc voice acting. ME1 was already really light on the dialog side as a result, and it's even worse in ME2(Shepard saying random things without any of your input). I think pc acting just limits what you can do way too much.

I prefer no voice actors. In ME, it really limited things in terms of dialogue.

Okay MAYBE that would work. Only because Bruce Campbell has so much pwnage that it would pull through

I don't prefer to have a VA because it limits roleplay. The type of voice, the way lines are delivered, help define a character. I'd rather imagine that for myself, allowing for a greater range of characterization. I tried the original ME and never finished it. Okay, that's partly because I hate decryption just that much, but it's partly because I found it difficult to identify with Sheppard. I just didn't have enough control to make the character my own. It felt more like a character in a FPS to me than one in an RPG. I didn't find the character compelling enough to push me through control elements that I didn't like in order to continue the story.

That being said. I do wish the PC wasn't quite so expressionless. He/she can sometimes look a bit bovine.

You guys are forcing me to go go play Tachyon:The Fringe again just to have Brucie as my main character.

No, no voice acting for the PC, please. I don't even like the voices in character creation, I simply pick the least annoying one, and hope my PC doesn't feel the urge to say much.

there should definitely be voice acting. Commander Shepard > Warden because he has a voice and personality. the Warden is mostly a sock puppet

This has been discussed a million times, but for what it's worth I'm on the side of the OP. I think it could be done with just one actor of each sex -- not to overwork the ME comparison, but people do still feel that their Shepard is "theirs" with a generic voice whether paragon, renegade, etc.

Well speak for yourself. Sheperd dosen't feel like he's my char to me, he feels like Sheperd.  Horrible example anyways, Sheperd sounds like a downs patient after 3 or 4 strokes.

This.

In ME I feel like I am hearing Sheperd's story.
In DA I feel like I am crafting my Warden's story.

The difference?  Voice acting.

(disclaimer: I have no idea if this topic has been covered extensively or not all and i didnt check so if the only thing you want to say to me is "dude this has been discussed 1000 times" please save your breathe and move on)

When I started Dragon Age I was really surprised by the lack of voice acting from the warden.  I think the problem isn't that the warden communicates only by the text choices you pick for him.  Its that everyone else communicates via the voice acting.  It makes the warden seem subhuman and I felt like more of a passenger in my own adventure than the protagonist.  If everyone delivered their lines via text it would not be noticeable since all characters would be equal.  I just finished ME2 and Shepard was so much enjoyable to play because his dialogue and personality was delivered to me on the same terms as all the other characters.

Just some thoughts from someone who just finished ME2 and has Shepard vs the Warden fresh in their mind.  What do you all think?

Having done the same DA:O feels strange in this aspect, lots of voice/banter from the group, people you meet and yet your character is a mute
